15" Kokeshi Japanese Doll Vintage Traditional Naruko Style Signed 1960's Japan - in very good condition - Please look closely at the pictures as you can see paint smudge on the side of the doll. this doll is @ 15" tall and quite heavy - This is from my mother in law's estate - she lived in japan from the 50's to the 70's Naruko Kokeshi is believed to have originated in Yumoto in MIyagi prefecture in the late Edo (1615-1868) period. There are over 120 artisans creating Narugo Kokeshi. It is one of the largest groups of traditional Kokeshi. Thick, heavy & sturdy body composition. Squared shoulders, and made of two pieces of wood for the head and body.
