1.5 oz Devil's Club Root Bark (dried).
Alaska’s Devils Club, Oplopanax horridus, it is part of the ginseng family. Bark is harvested from family owned property on the world famous Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Harvested ethically on a full moon in fall and spring when the bark is strongest. Only the oldest recumbent stems are harvested for the strongest Bark possible. The term root bark is used my most herbalists
in regards to old recumbent stems that lay on the forest floor.
Devil’s club is a spiny shrub with large elephant-ear like leaves found in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Historically, Indigenous peoples in Alaska have used this plant for tea, poultices and tinctures, and for making decorative beads. It’s properties help to relieve aching due to arthritis and other joint maladies.
The bark has been used for centuries for a variety of reasons and is sacred medicine. Only the freshest bark is shipped out.
Used in Shamanism for purification and protection purposes. Hanging over the front door is said to protect the occupants within from misfortune.
Devil’s club is considered sacred and a link between the ordinary, or profane world, and the supernatural, or spirit world.
Most “medicinal” applications of devil’s club are inextricably linked to “spiritual” applications of the plant, particularly its use for cleansing and purification. Devil’s club also figures significantly in the traditional narratives of many cultural groups throughout its range.
