1859 Declaration Independence Plaque by Samuel H. Black
1859-Dated, "Declaration of Independence" Embossed Copper Metal Plaque, by Samuel H. Black, Choice Extremely Fine.
Original Copper Metal Plaque displaying the Declaration of Independence Signing. It measures 7" x 8" (by sight). Framed on 8-3-97 in a frame that measures roughly 13" x 13.5" which has some minor wear on the right side (refer to image). This plaque is made from solid Copper and is dated at the bottom: "Entered According To The Act Of Congress, in the year 1859 by S.H. Black In The Clerk's Office of The District Court For The Southern District of New York." In the center is a round Seal bearing an inset vignette impression of "The Congress on July 4th, 1776." Surrounding it is written, in raised print, the "Declaration" itself. Beneath are the raised signatures of each of its Signer's, with a highly decorative surround and raised border design. This Plaque was manufactured at about the same time as Samuel Black's larger size "National Medallion" Plaque. Surrounding an 86 mm reproduction of the obverse of C. C. Wright's "Declaration of Independence" medal, elegantly engraved after the famous John Trumbull Painting of the occasion. A wonderful historic decorative display piece from 1859 with the embossed typescript text of the entire Declaration of Independence with script signatures of each of the Signers shown below.
