18th Thomas Jones. A mountainous river landscape with figures & animals.

Description *It is an oil sketch painting on canvas depicted an extensive mountainous bucolic river landscape with figures ambling in the foreground and animals on a path in a river overlooking the Italian country side. *The painting appears to be unsigned but it looks like there’s an indistinct signature and inscribed with an initial “TJ” at lower center left but I’m not sure if the artist signed it. * Most of his unconventional style works were not really intended for exhibit. This is a good example of one of his small oil sketches. Provenance *Originally comes from Sudbury, England It was previously described and attributed to Van de Velde & Berchem painting and was corrected by previous owner (grandparents) as Attr. Thomas Jones (1742-1803). *It has been exhibited before at Dulwich, but No receipt. Selling as is. Measurements 17 x 15 inches framed 14 x 11.5 inches viewing size Condition * Minor paint losses and wear commensurate with an 18th c old painting. * Sign of a tiny repair. * Over all it is in good condition despite of its age. * Needs to be cleaned.
