This Strombecker cardboard dollhouse was produced in 1938. According to Cooper and Mundorf’s The Complete Guide to StromBecker Dollhouses & Furniture 1931-1961, it was a promotional item made similar to their larger and stronger houses, but made of 30 point cardboard instead of the “Fibo-Board” the larger houses were made of. This house is lithographed in four colors. The book identifies the house as A-606 Utility Play House, and while this house is identical to the house shown in the book, it is labeled No. 860 Strombecker Play House. As you can see, I did not attempt to put this together. It looks like all the pieces are there, but I’m not completely sure. I was afraid I would cause damage by bending it and attempting to put the “puzzle” together. I apologize. But the pieces do look to be an excellent condition as you can see from the photos.
This house is the smallest cardboard house Strombecker made in this open front play house design, measuring approximately 18½” wide, 13½” high and 10¼” deep. The smaller Strombecker furniture will fit nicely in this house.
