Original description was correct and lovely: These Vienna Petit Point earrings from the 1950s are a fun find, embroidered tiny tapestries in roses and floral to dazzle up any outfit! The earrings have minor wear along the metal, but for over 70s years the condition hasn’t worn too much! These earrings are roughly the size of a nickel. Founded in 1932 here is more about Vienna Petit Points history at Viennapetitpoint.at: “The art of the Petit Point originated at the French court, where the women mostly embroidered coarser tapestries. As the generations and epochs changed, the stitches became finer and finer, the threads thinner and thinner and the colors more sophisticated. This beautiful form of handicraft found its way to Austria in the Baroque era and became a popular pastime for court ladies. The Viennese Petit Point experienced its heyday in the Rococo and is characterized by its particular delicacy and variety of colors. Even today, engravings and pictures from this period are mainly used as models and it is mainly French and Dutch masters who gave the Viennese Petit Point its typical appearance and still give it today.”
