The back of the plate gives a summary of the history of the church: "Mission work began in Halfway Creek community in 1852-53 by Nils Brandt. Congregation organized 1856 by H.G. Stub. May 25, 1861 Luther College started at parsonage. Church built 1868; burned April 1912; replaced 1913..."
The church is still active in Holmen as the Halfway Creek Lutheran Church. It had a celebration in 2021 to commemorate 165 years of continuous worship.
