Royal Copenhagen has been making the finest quality porcelain in Denmark since 1775. This exquisite teapot is from 1959 and is so rare, no one remembers what the exact name of the hand painted floral pattern is. Most collectors call it ‘Pattern 627’ because the numbers on the bottom (627/8503) denote this is a small 16-sided teapot (#8561) painted in the floral pattern #627. The 16-sided shape of this pattern is exactly the same as one of Royal Copenhagen’s most popular and long-running patterns “Henriette”.
The dot underneath the ‘A’ in Denmark on the underside of the lid dates this teapot to 1959. I have only ever seen examples of this pattern dating between the mid 1950’s to the late 1960’s which is why it is probably so difficult to find. I have two other pieces from this pattern, so be sure to check out my other offerings.
The teapot measures 8 inches long by 5 inches wide by 5 inches tall. It is in like-new condition with no chips, cracks or stains. Royal Copenhagen is very strict in grading a product and the slightest imperfection will cause them to mark the item with a scratch on the three wavy blue lines which are part of the trademark on the bottom. Both the pot and lid have a scratch on the wavy lines denoting them as second quality but I cannot find any significant defects on either (boy, these guys are strict).
