DescriptionBeautiful pair of Oggetti Murano glass vases signed by Luigi Onesto. The details and wonder of these vases is difficult to capture with photographs. In the light the necks are a deep purple with the bases a golden amber. The bubbles are most apparent through the center of the vases. Luigi’s work is characterized by his exceptionally skillful use of the sommerso technique. Sommerso involves layering multiple colors of glass for a very distinctive and beautiful effect. The larger vases measures 17.5 inches x 6.25 inches (at the widest point) x 3 inches (the base). The smaller vase measures 14 inches x 5 inces (at the widest point) x 2.5 inches (the base).
Both vases have the Oggetti label and are signed L. Onesto for Luigi Onesto. Luigi Onesto is one of the most famous makers of Italian Murano art glass. Born in Murano, Italy in 1935 to a family of glassmakers, Luigi was immersed in the art from an early age. As a teenager he honed his craft during his apprenticeship at Gambaro & Poggi, one of the oldest and leading glass making companies in Italy at the time. Once he had attained suitable skill he founded his own art glass studio, Vetreria Artistica Oball, where he now works with his sons.
