Mattel debuted the Dreamhouse in 1962, three years after Barbie hit the market, and at a time when it was rare for a woman to own her own home. The first Dreamhouse was made of cardboard and had one room. It had a television set, a record player, and no kitchen. I will not email, or text/call you.

This is so cool. I just had to comment. I never seen a Barbie dream house from way back then. So cool. Not trying to disturb you I just thought this was very cool.

I had one of these Barbie doll houses. It was all cardboard. I remember the records for the console stereo were cardboard too. I had played with this my whole childhood. You had to learn to use your imagination❣️The house folded up and had a handle to carry it. Loved this memory.

I had this dream house but the bed was different. It was wider and gold colored. If it had that particular bed, this dream house would be mine!

My sister and I received this from our older cousin after she outgrew it. This was the exact one we had and we loved it so much!

I had one
Of these. It was made so cheaply. Even the legs of the couch were made of cardboard. I didn’t care on bit. I wanted it so much. Must have been about 9 at the time

I had/ still have mine like this one. With my latest cleaning out phase going on, I wondered if anyone would even want my dream house. I have a set of plastic kitchen appliances and table that are Barbie size but I’m not sure they were branded for Barbie.
This brings back wonderful memories. I hope someone loves yours and takes care of it ❤️

@jce355 - I had one in the 60s and I loved it! My Granddaughter plays with my old Barbies now. I’d love to have another one and I love that they fold up for easy storage. I have the Family House it’s a little brittle (roof) but otherwise good condition. There’s quite a market for vintage Barbie houses.

I still have mine like this! In fact I have 2. My oldest granddaughters were born just one year apart, (15 & 16 yrs ago now) Their mom, our oldest daughter, was a HUGE fan of Barbie and they shared in her passion. Her two plastic dream houses from the 80’s did not appeal to them but my cardboard “suitcase” one did! So I eBayed and snagged another one so they could be neighbors.

Oh My Gosh!!! I had this Dream House and played with it until it was practically falling apart. What a throw-back to my childhood.
