This is a fabulous vintage Caro Nan basket purse made for The Hollow Tree, Milwaukee WI.
Sturdy New England baskets with handles, lids, and hand-painted town scenes. The company was started by Carolyn McDaniel and Nancy Steele in 1965 and continued the business through 1980.
The top of the basket purse has the words "Love, happiness is, just for you!, Open, Paradise and a train. The sides are painted with different Milwaukee scenes such as Milwaukee Brewers, Performing Arts, Milwaukee Art Center, Pfister Hotel, The Hollow Tree, Mayfair Ice Chalet, and Green Bay Packers.
Top edge has "Holiday fun, Rio Italy, Sports, cheerful, and Spoil Yourself" written in fun and different fonts.
Condition: Very good vintage condition with a clean fabric with orange fruit pattern on the interior. Paint is still a vibrant color with no fading to the town shops. Some wear to hinges and edges.
A real 1972 penny is affixed to the lid for good luck! Signed inside lid "The Hollow Tree by Caro-Nan."
Single top handle.
