1974 Annual Plate by Lalique Cristal, SILVER PENNIES/SOUS D’ ARGENT
The LALIQUE factory was built in 1921 by the company’s founder René Lalique, in the village of Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace, a region of France which has the strongest glassmaking traditions. It has remained to this day the world’s sole LALIQUE production facility.
All plates are outstanding! Each yearly design is captivating and so detailed. All are extremely well executed.
This is an excellent example of a Lalique Silver Pennies annual plate produced in 1974. The Lalique 1974 Silver Pennie plate is known in France as "The Pop's Money". The dried leaves are effectively represented in the famous Lalique satin finish against a background of clear crystal. This is tenth in a series. This was a limited edition with less than 8000 plates being produced. A stunning frosted crystal plate with an extremely detailed collection of the dried leaves of the 'Silver Penny' plant which engulfs the entire plate. Perfect gift or decorator piece. Displays exceptionally well from all angles.
It is an exceptional plate in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks and still has its original "Cristal LALIQUE Paris" sticker. This plate also has the smaller paper 'Made In France' sticker. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process.
Appropriately signed Lalique France. Authentic Lalique Crystal.
Measurements: Base: 6 1/4", Rim: 8 1/2" This was one of the heaviest lead crystal plates made in this series.
