2 Antique Brookfield New York Aqua Teal Glass Telegraph Wire Insulators
Great antique condition! No chips or cracks. There is some soot or discoloration in spots that did not come off with normal cleaning.
These both have "BROOKFIELD" embossed on one side, and "NEW YORK" embossed on the opposite side. Both have a number 1 embossed on the dome.
One is a lighter aqua color and the other a darker teal.
Each insulator is approximately 3-3/4" tall and 2-1/4" in diameter.
Brookfield Glass Company was one of many manufacturers of insulated attachments (insulators), used on the open wire of telegraph transmission lines. These insulators prevented short-circuiting the wires to the ground and to each other. in 1870, James Brookfield was awarded a patent for improving the manufacture of screw-on insulators, and the threaded Brookfield glass insulator type became the standard for telegraphy lines in the country. The company was in operation from 1864 to 1921.
