Each year, a variety of international artists unveil their most creative designs based on the Duvel glass for the Duvel Collection.
Duvel and Morrison are a perfect match. The heritage of both crafts, beer brewing and tattooing, is based on authenticity and respect for the past. They have withstood the ravages of time. And that’s reflected in the design, which is done entirely in her own style. Morrison took her inspiration from the story that says that, in addition to a devil, there’s also an angel on the label for one in every 1,000 bottles of Duvel.
“The Duvel glass is so distinctive and iconic, I was really honored to be asked to come up with a design,” says Morrison. “I’m a fan of everything to do with Belgium, Flemish artists, the city of Antwerp. I plunged straight into the history of Duvel and the glass, and the story about the little devil and the angel on the label grabbed me immediately. I like that kind of contrast anyway. I immediately saw a rugged sailor in front of me, who had a tough yet sweet tattoo inked on him, and then enjoyed a nice glass of beer and a good chat in the pub. My design doesn’t show the contrast, but rather the interplay between good and evil, the connection between the devil and angel. A metaphor for life, and also for an evening in the pub.”
