2 Vintage Wood Cut Pictures Handmade in Americus Kansas by Marlow Woodcuts

Listing includes 2 wood cut pictures. (The one with the tree has sold). Marlow Woodcuts of Americus, KS was founded by Margaret Lowe (1/19/1908-12/24/1993) in 1932, a year when many businesses and banks failed. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in 1931 and taught music for a year before her position was eliminated for the 1932 school year due to the depression. She began creating in her father’s cabinet shop and found that his customers were interesting in purchasing her art. She named her business Marlow using the first syllable of her first and last name. Each piece was hand cut with a jigsaw and hand assembled. She commonly used native Kansas Walnut but would occasionally use other more exotic wood for her creations. These 2 are wonderful with such fine detail. Each measures 7.5” x 4.5”.
