gordomom Btw, not sure if you knew, but no state income tax in WA and no sales tax in OR. I shop a lot in OR!!! Big ticket items I still have to pay tax, but some WA businesses will even cover the sales taxes for you.

I am loving the whole no sales tax thing in OR...I didn't know that! PA (where I have lived my whole life) has no sales tax on clothing. When I used to work in retail (at Old Navy), we would have lots of customers come in from other states to buy school clothes/do Christmas shopping. :)

fancypantsmcgee @mrsbeckyp What a nightmare!! Thank you for the valuable tip, I will be sure to avoid those companies! I am already stressing about moving. I didn't realize how good I have it here in Pittsburgh... rent seems to be significantly higher in the decent neighborhoods in Portland compared to what we are paying for our large two bedroom apartment now. I'd better hope I can land a good job once I graduate in June lol.

fancypantsmcgee @mrsbeckyp We have lived in Pittsburgh for almost a year now (although I grew up in southwestern PA so I was never very far) and I love our neighborhood (Point Breeze). However, we don't have a car (I can't drive anyway) and my main complaint with Pittsburgh is that it's so hard to get around without a car!! And I try to avoid the public transportation as much as possible because that is pretty bad as well. So one of my main requirements for our next place is that it's easier to get around! Right now we are a 1.5 mile walk from a decent grocery store, which is okay when you just need a few items, but insane when you need to do a large shop. Never again! lol.

I've read a bunch of articles online about which neighborhoods are the "good" ones/fit the type of neighborhood we are looking for, but I wanted to get input from someone I actually know. How familiar are you with Portland's neighborhoods (I know you don't technically live in the city)? Or do you know of someone else who could potentially give me some good info on this?

gordomom Oh there are so many great neighborhoods! It depends on what you'd like to be close to and if you plan to have a car or take public transit. Our transit is developing but has a long way to go too. Did I get ur email address? And btw-I finished school in Pittsburgh. I had been going to school in the south of France and came back to finish at Pitt. I really enjoyed my years in the Burgh! Wonderful city. Portland will be a really fresh and fun place, but has a lot of depth or character like Pittsburgh.

I have really enjoyed my time living in this city (especially since I grew up not too far from here, so my family is close by), but I am also very excited to start a new chapter in Portland. Nearly all of my extended family live in my hometown, so for me to move at all (let alone across the country) is a big deal. I guess someone has to be the trailblazer. ;)

My family has moved my entire life--my Dad's work is in third world development--and he's usually in post conflict zones so we were mostly stateside, but it meant a lot of moving for where we were based etc....it's been wonderful in many ways, and it's made me kind of like the "professional new kid". Knowing so many people gave me the gift of learning to really love and appreciate my life, the people in it, the places we would know for a few years at a time and all of the variance among experientially rich moments. This is going to be wonderful for you! And yes, it's amazing and wonderful how someone who can seem to be a stranger would actually likely be a friend should you ever meet. fancypantsmcgee @haleynsalvador Hello and welcome to Poshmark! Once someone makes a purchase from your closet, their money goes into your "pending" balance. You print a pre-paid shipping label and send out their item. Once they receive it, they have 3 days to "accept" the item. If the item is as pictured and what they were expecting, they will accept the items and the funds from the purchase will be released and move into your "redeemable" balance. You can then set up direct deposit so you can have this deposited into your checking account or you can request to have a check sent to you. You can also shop on Poshmark with your redeemable balance. Hope this helps! A great resource within the app is a section called "Your Guide to Poshmark," which can be found under the tab at the bottom right of the app. That should tell you all you need to know about the app. Have a great day!

fancypantsmcgee @cjtang Thank you so much! I've had bangs for 2 years now and I love them! I'd say go for it; it's such an easy way to change up your hair style. My only problem is that I can't really wear them in the summer. My hair is naturally wavy/curly and if I straighten it in the summer,it's usually curly again within 5 minutes of being out in the humidity lol.

fancypantsmcgee @smarcfashion Woohoo, congrats!! 🎉 I am not sure I have a handle on this new system yet, but my understanding is that the SUs rotate multiple times a day and are suggested to others who have similar style and size preferences. I know that after I got the email this week, I didn't see my name on the list, but I did notice an increase in followers. Hope that helps, I know that's probably not much more info than you already had!

fancypantsmcgee @dollface86 Thank you! I love Portland. My boyfriend and I came here on vacation about 5 years ago and wanted to move here ever since. So when I graduated from college in the summer, we were finally able to make it happen! The neighborhood we are in now is not my favorite, but we only had a short amount of time to find a place. We are planning to move to a different neighborhood in the spring. And yes, it has been pretty cold! I'm from Pennsylvania, so I'm used to really cold winters. But the house we are living in now retains no heat, so it always feels even colder in our house than outside! Right now I'm wearing long sleeves, a sweatshirt, a scarf, slippers, and a blanket around the house! lol ;) Have you lived in Oregon for a long time? Hope you can make it to the party!!

Right now I'm wearing long Jons under track pants house shoes 2 layers under my hoody and a beanie next to my heat fan 😂 I've lived here since I was little, but I came from Arizona and just never really got use to the cold.my husband and I use to live downtown by 23rd area and we loved it!, but we found a great deal on a townhouse so we moved by Hillsboro and I'm not crazy about the area either. At first it seemed like a cool idea moving into a 3 level but it's so freaking cold in my place that we have the heat going and heat lamps so I'm feeling your pain lol and yup I plan to go :-) I really excited to meet everyone!! 😄

I swear this house we are living in has the same windows from when it was built in the 1920s! There is so much air leaking in, it's ridiculous. I would love to live close to the downtown, right now we are in the NE 120s, so not very close at all! There's nothing fun to do in my neighborhood (at least I haven't found anything yet!), so I am really looking forward to getting out of the house on Friday and meeting some people! :)

dollface86 @fancypantsmcgee yeah that is a typical NE house they are really cool and vintage but the windows are usually bad for ventilation and the original ones the house came with ( my husband has a window cleaning business so I get to hear all about them 😆) there is a restaurant in NE, but I'm not sure if it's in your neck of the woods but it's called screened door, it's sooooo good if you like southern food! I recommend it😁👍 in our area we have red robins lol so I'm looking forward to getting out and going downtown too! I can't wait to meet you!! 😄💖

This neighborhood we are in now (Parkrose Heights) is all chain restaurants and fast food joints. There's a Taco Bell like one block from my house lol. fancypantsmcgee @247jewelrystore Of course it's ok! I have been on here for almost a year, so it has taken a long time. I am a suggested user, which means my closet is suggested in the app to people who have similar style/size preferences. So since suggested users have more exposure, they get more followers. I think you are doing fine so far. You have 10k followers already! How long have you been on here? From what I can see, you're doing great so far. You follow a lot of people and share a lot, you don't take PayPal or trade, so you are definitely on the right track! The only thing you may want to consider doing (and I hope this won't offend you) is that you might wanna remove any mention of your website (247jewelrystore.net). I only say this because I know somewhere in the Posh rules it says that you aren't supposed to promote other sites where you sell things. And I would hate for someone to report you or anything like that! But it's totally up to you...hope I'm not being too forward. I just want you to be in the best possible position to become a suggested user too in the future! I hope that helped and feel free to ask me anything else. I'm always happy to help!

247jewelrystore Np I appreciate all the info. Because they have us list our site didn't think that would be an issue. I just do it because I'm building, or trying to , build the name as a brand but I'll surely look into doing that. I do want to become a suggested user and not trying to pull business off of posh. I've been here since November. I do a lot of following and use to grow fast I thought but not so much anymore. I do share everyday and will continue this. Want to build my sales to several hundred a week so trying to grow as quickly as I can. I read something saying having 100k followers and more would help me achieve this goal. Up that's why I wanna grow rapidly.

fancypantsmcgee @247jewelrystore I think you're doing well. I don't know of anyone who has reached 100k followers in just a few months...most of those people have been at it nearly as long as I have. Some of the people that have several hundred thousand have been here for almost 2 years. I think if you just keep doing what you're doing, you'll succeed. And share your items to the Posh parties every night! (I'm sure you already do that but thought I'd mention it just in case!) I'll keep sharing your closet too!

fancypantsmcgee @247jewelrystore I think it's possible. My income with Posh is not super regular, but I try to make as much as I can. You probably already do this, but share your items to Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc too. I've made sales just from sharing to those platforms. You could also look for other closets who are selling in the same way you are (like selling brand new items rather than just selling my own clothes) and see how they do it. One closet to check out is stylergirl. Her closet is basically a jewelry boutique and she is pretty successful and makes regular sales. She may even have some tips that I don't know about. :)

Worth checking out if you ever go back (and I can recommend a good restaurant, too, in that general area). I hope YOU are staying warm! All of my family is still in southwestern PA and my bf has family in NYC and Massachusetts, so we are hearing all about the snow and cold. ;)

I have been considering it, but the vast majority of fashion blogs seem to be focused on outfit posts and that's just not my style. georgeannvan @fancypantsmcgee I have been blogging for only about five months so am no expert, but I enjoy writing and taking photos. I think you have a good eye for details. Also, there is so much more to write about than fashion and cute outfit ideas. You would be surprised what you can specialize in with a topical blog. I started with a random blog where I post any topic and then ended up adding a second food focused blog which I enjoy much more. The question to ask is whether you want to do it and think you'll enjoy it, don't worry about being successful. Just have fun! I am long winded too :)

fancypantsmcgee @moorepatrice Hi Patrice! Nice to meet you as well! We haven't done much planning so far. All we know is that we're getting married next spring and that it will be pretty low key. Neither of us want anything big or extravagant, just want to celebrate with family and close friends. :) Even though it's not going to be a huge event, we still have a lot to figure out. Both of our families are on the east coast, so we will be having it there and hopefully we can find a location that will be easy for everyone to get to. fifig23 You went to the Pyramids!!! That is my husband's dream to see them one day! Have you ever read "The Alchemist"? That book is the reason I moved to JacksonHole, WY, after I graduated school- and the most beautiful place on earth to me. I was on the fence about doing it but happened to read The Alchemist at the time and there is a line in there that said, "I know how to be a farmer, I can always be a farmer, but I may not have another chance to see the Pyramids." That's actually the Sphinx of Hatshepsut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I have always wanted to see the pyramids, though! fifig23 Hi Kristin! I am a book hoarder too! What are your favorites?? If I could give you a very short list of some of my favorites it would be "A Prayer for Owen Meany" (AMAZING!!! A MUST-MUST read); "Travels with Charley"; "A Confederacy of Dunces (the funniest, laugh out loud book I have ever, ever read); and my favorite book ever, and it was Jack Kerauc's first (and very under-appreciated in my opinion!) called "The Town and the City." Oh and "Les Miserable" I could go on and on! But the two books that changed my life were "The Alchemist" and "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis. Changed my life. I cried through the whole thing- in a good way. I hope you get to travel out of the country sometime! My husband is born and bred Boston and hard hardly left Boston when we met. Now I've been dragging him all over the place! :-) And now he has the travel bug too! We went to Greece on our honeymoon last summer and it was AMAZING!!! The whole thing was so incredibly awesome but the best part for me was seeing my husband just amazed at everything. He LOVED it. Go Go Go lady! You won't regret it!! fifig23 Hi Kristin! Please! No apologies necessary at all! It was great to hear from you. I tried to unplug this past weekend to just be with my siblings and my mom without technology. It was not easy to do (I had so many emails and posh messages I wanted to check!) but I just tried to keep the phone out of my hands and focus on being present. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE F. Scott Fitzgerald. He is one of my all time favorites and I've read a lot of his books. He and Jack Kerauoc are probably my favorite authors. And John Irving. But Fitzgerald's "Tender is the Night" moved me so much. I love it. I used to write down my favorite quotes in a quote book and several came from "Tender is the Night". And I have been meaning to read Marquez's "100 years of Solitude" and "Love in the Time of Cholera" for YEARS. Would you recommend one over the other? And of course, of course, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" breaks my heart every time. Such a beautiful story. I definitely hear you on getting out from a pile of debt. Gabriel García Márquez won the Nobel price with this book in 1982. He's Colombian☺️ So read that one first. "Love in the Time of Cholera" is not a sequel, by any means, but having read One Hundred Years of Solitude first, would make certain aspects of the second, easier to grasp. fancypantsmcgee @fifig23 Hi Elizabeth! I have to agree with Isabel @isa_wine_lover, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a good one to read first. I think that's the first of his works that I ever read. There's also a great short story called "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World." which is one of my favorite short stories ever. If you're in the mood to read something relatively short, I'm sure you could find a copy of it online. :) I've actually never read Fitzgerald's "Tender is the Night," but I need to! It's been sitting on my book shelf for a few years now. Again, another favorite short story of mine (can you tell I love short stories? Haha!) is "Babylon Revisited" by Fitzgerald. Right now I'm working my way through a pile of Haruki Murakami books (both fiction and non-fiction), but I think I'll pick up Tender is the Night after that. Murakami has been my favorite contemporary author for about 10 years now. His writing isn't for everybody. It's pretty surreal and people seem to either love it or hate it. I just happen to love it. Anyway! I won't talk your ear off. :) Hope you're having a great weekend!

siennethreads Lol my sis just recently got engaged and is seriously contemplating eloping bc she doesn't want to plan anything either, so I feel ur pain haha. I was super young when I got married and we literally did it on a whim in Vegas. 😜 In retrospect, I would've opted for a more traditional wedding (there were no costumes or Elvis impersonators involved, thank goodness) but we were young and broke and my hubby was about to get shipped off to boot camp. It was def a "Bonnie and Clyde" moment tho and we always think back to it and smile. I'm sure whatever u do it'll be amazing bc u guys have been together for so long, plus u have impeccable taste. 😊 I'm studying fashion and intl business at the moment. This is my second quarter (I dropped out of college over 10 yrs ago to raise my son) so #thestruggleisreal haha. The program is online so it's been a challenge for me to balance everything. I have three young boys, so my goal is to get my degree before one of them does! 🙈 I can't wait to get into visual merch! That area of the industry really interests me too!

I am definitely going to get both books for my trip to Spain coming up for a wedding because I need some reading for the plane! I will get both books from the library and I'm so glad you told me that I should read "One Hundred Years Of Solitude" first! I'm so glad you jumped into mine and Kristin's conversation! :-) I love knowing what people's favorite books are- it's so interesting to me! I love to read. I used to read like a fiend but fell out of the habit in my twenties. But now I'm trying to get more into it. I've been reading a lot of books about animals recently. "The Emotions of Animals" is amazing and I want to read this book that is called "The Last Chains on Billie", which is about an elephant from India that spent its whole life in captivity with horrific chains around it's ankles; she was rescued by this amazing group of people and Billie cried tears of joy. (Elephants have been documented many, many times to cry when they are happy or sad.) And Kristin, I love to talk about books so you could never talk my ear off. :-) I am definitely going to read "Babylon Revisited" because I think that is one of the few Fitzgerald books or short stories I've never read! I'm so interested! And please let me know what you think of "Tender is the Night" when you get to it. It's an incredible book. Have a beautiful weekend, sweet (and smart and fierce) ladies! ps. The best way to get a host pick is by making sure your closet follows Posh rules (meaning that you don't sell items that aren't allowed--so only women's clothing, shoes, and accessories--and you don't take any transactions off Posh. Most party hosts will create a listing in their closet letting people know they are hosting. Some of these hosts will indicate that they want to be tagged on people's listings for potential host picks. So the best thing to do is stop by and congratulate them in their party listing and if they are asking to be tagged, feel free to tag them in one of your listings that fits their party theme. I hope that helps and makes sense!

fancypantsmcgee @hbottenfield Hey Hannah! I became a suggested user a few months after I started my closet. I think the key is to make sure you follow the rules (like no unsupported items or transactions off Posh--I don't think you do any of that) and be active (by updating your closet, sharing other Poshers listings, and attending the Posh parties, etc). I'm not sure why it takes longer for them to get to some users who are clearly doing everything they should be. But I'd just say to follow those steps and keep up the good work and you'll hear from Posh about being a suggested user in no time. :) You can also email them at su @ poshmark . com to express your interest in becoming a suggested user!

fancypantsmcgee @squishylivy Hi Livy! I can't drive either. It's kinda funny, I lost my vision right at 16 when I would have been learning to drive, so I never got the chance! I see myself as pretty lucky, though. I was completely blind for a short period of time and was able to have some of my vision restored. It's my peripheral vision and depth perception that was affected the most. I still have days where I get super frustrated with it, but as I'm sure you know, you gotta just take it all in stride. :) Thanks for visiting my closet!

fancypantsmcgee @havenb1 Hi Haven! So nice to meet you! I was actually away from Posh for a few weeks (was visiting family on the east coast), so if @blandw did introduce us, I may have missed it! Congrats on your upcoming party! They are so much fun. My favorite part is choosing the picks! I have hosted three times now, so I will be happy to give you my suggestions for a smooth and successful party. The beauty of getting to co-host is that you get to choose items that really speak to you (as long as they fit the theme, of course). I personally like to find items that have not been chosen before, but that is certainly not required. I start by checking out some of my favorite closets, then I move on to searching through brands/designers that I like. If you do this, remember to remove the filter that only shows you items in your size. You want to make sure you choose a variety of sizes so there's something for everyone. Whenever I find something I want to choose as a party pick, I add it to my likes. That way, when it's time for the party, you can just go into your likes and easily locate all your picks! I'm sure you already know this, but you also want to make sure you check and see that the closet you're sharing from follows Posh rules. When it's time for the party, I personally like to share my items from my laptop rather than my phone. That way I can have several tabs open. I will have one tab open to my likes for easy sharing, then one tab open to the party (specifically the host picks feed) and I will keep refreshing that to make sure my picks are showing up and that I'm not sharing any of the same items as my other co-hosts. Then I have a tab open to my notifications just in case anyone has any questions or offers while I'm hosting. Also, I try to space out my sharing. Like maybe share one pick per minute or something like that. This way, I don't run out of things to share during the two hour time frame. I hope this information helps! fancypantsmcgee @garciagaby Yes! The best advice I can give is to share, share, share. Share your entire closet a few times a day. Share your items to the Posh parties (especially the one that happens at night) when they fit the party theme. Most importantly, you want to share other people's items. Most people will return shares and many of them will share as many of your items as you have shared of theirs. It's also a great way to get followers. For example, if I see someone has shared 5-10 of my items, I will go into their closet, share back, and probably follow them. Also, when you're sharing, look in particular at people who have similar sizes and styles to what you have for sale. That way when they go to your closet to share back, they're more likely to see something they like in their size and will maybe make a purchase! Lastly, you'll want to familiarize yourself with Poshmark rules, particularly what is allowed to be sold and what isn't. Your closet looks good so far! I only mention it because a lot of people start out not sure of what they can and can't sell. For example, you can only sell swimwear and lingerie if it is new with the tags attached. And you can only sell women's fashion, no men's/baby stuff, no electronics, etc. And no used makeup. Anyway! Sorry if you already knew some of this...just want you to get started on the right foot so you can make some sales! Good luck and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. 💕💕💕

I have never had an item reported as such (nor have I ever had to report an item that way), from what I've heard from others, I do think Posh tends to be fair. If you described the item accurately in your listing, photos, and comments, I think you'll be fine. Did you ask the buyer why she feels the item was not as described?

fancypantsmcgee @corpusjuris Yes, it is always a good practice to include at least one photo of the actual item just as a means of protecting yourself against this sort of thing. Well, if they give her a refund, she still has to send the jeans back to you. So at least if that happens you can list them again. I'm sure there is actually nothing wrong with them so hopefully Posh will side with you. I think it takes them a few days to determine.

Occasionally, I'll set up something nice for photos, but my hands shake to where I rarely am able to take a clear photo, let alone, a good one.
