**Please see comments from Dawn @schoomkie she is a Postal Mail Carrier and knows the real deal! REPORT any mail carrier you see smoking! I had NO idea!! I've received a couple things that smelled of smoke when the seller said nothing about being a smoker (FYI Poshers - nonsmokers CARE about that)...or so heavily perfumed that I had a migraine for days! Be very sure before accusing either the Postal Carrier or the Seller!👍🏽

psc No not here and it was way to smokey smelling from the tissue card box and item especially the item I had to rake to a jeweler to have him professionally clean which cost me a lot of money more than I paid for the item purchased

mixitup @psc I honestly believe it has to do sometimes with smoke getting on it thru transit. I had items shipped in ziploc bags and the card and inside smelled heavily of smoke while the inside of the Ziploc smelled great.

maggie_pie @linmp1031 yes, I have had a handful of packages arrive that have totally reeked of smoke, and I'm very allergic to it. I believe, though that it was the sellers in my case, because I know my mailman is a nonsmoker...and it smelled much much stronger on the INSIDE of the box than the OUTSIDE. The clothes were so drenched in smoke smell that even professional dry cleaning could not remove the odor. They were unusable for me. Unless all of your mail smells of smoke and the outside of the box smells more than the inside, I would be careful not to blame the mail carrier too quickly. Many ppl selling are just not very honest, unfortunately. It's a very disappointing thing.

mixitup @maggie_pie in your case can you ask the sellers to put your items in a zip lock or something that wraps it up? Let them know you're allergic and hopefully none come reeking. Other postal workers delete ring it may smoke. I've seen it numerous times. My mail doesn't smell but I typically see this happen with packages not letters. Not sure why that is. I've had things drenched in perfume so bad it had to go away or be put away for months. Yeah sellers should be more respectful. I have a dog it's mentioned on my profile not every item. But obviously I'd let the potential buyer know.

mixitup @linmp1031 oh geez yeah perfume isn't good. Their should be a checklist we could post around. Check off all that apply so buyers know ahead of time. Like pets smoking shipping time average if items are washed or dry cleaned after sold etc if that makes sense. Then each sellers checks which ones apply to them. I don't write pet household on every item too time consuming on my phone. But I would hope people look at profiles.

My illness makes me way more sensitive to smoke than perfume, tho it has caused me to stop wearing scents of any kind (wish we could sell them on PM).

andrea_27s Yeah my immune system is severally compromises my respiratory system apparently . I figured as much since I always needed steroids and inhalers but they just confirmed it last month. I have some glad plugs in so my house smells nice for my sister and nieces trip here but I'm about to rip them out of the wall! My head is pounding lol. I usually wear weak body spray... I found one perfume that isn't strong! YAY!! 😀

kimberlydriskel I've had this problem on ebay before and a friend told me about this spray called oozum (not sure sp?) Anyway I sprayed the shirt and then washed it and it was fine. But anything made of leather seemed to really hold onto the smell. The spray did help with the leather items but unfortunately didn't take it away completely

msbsboutique I've had 2 complaints recently that my clothes smelled of smoke but I don't smoke & don't allow smoking in my house. I was so upset! The first buyer gave me a 4 star rating & said she didn't mind washing the tops, although I offered her a complete refund, even if the smell doesn't come out after she washes the tops. The second buyer gave me 1 star on a brand new skirt that I wrapped in tissue with ribbon & even sent a nice free gift. I think the rating was completely unfair as she based the entire transaction on 1 issue, yet she refused a refund. I have received several purchases that were covered in pet hair & smelled awful. I think sellers should also disclose the fact that they have pets.

naomiha My grandma makes home made turkey jerky. It s so good that I crave it. So every once in a while I have them send me some. Both my grandparents don't smoke. But sometimes my jerky. Smells like jerky. It's so disappointing. Sometimes though. If I am REALLY craving it. I will eat it anyways.

kimsthings I was wrongly accused of this.... Twice!!!!! I could not understand. My sister smokes, but does not live with me. So I assumed smoke smell got on the items somehow by going places ( outdoor concerts, events, family picnics???... A few smokers in my family... Again not living with me)... Then I saw it!!!! My mail man having a cigarette!!!! Holy crap!!! Lol. My posh reputation means so much to me. I have received a couple items that slightly smell of smoke on posh, I simply wash or air out. I will never blame a fellow posher!!! It's too upsetting, and quite frankly, a pretty easy fix. Great post!!!!💖

I once purchased an item that smelled like a sewer. 💩😁 Got a Coach crossbody purse for my daughter, it looked cute on the pic (it's was not too bad either) but my goodness, as I opened the box, the stench was terrible. I made sure to get my coworkers opinion to justify I'm not going bonkers. They all said the same thing. I asked the seller (who I'm not going to mention anymore) why it smelled so bad, but never got an answer. 👎 Hope all Poshers make sure, items are clean/ed before mailing it. kristilynn28 This is great. My mailman doesn't smoke (thankfully) but he's not the only one touching my packages. I try to always ask now if the seller is a smoker. I bought a really nice purse and it smelled so bad. I asked the seller if she smoked, and she said yes, but I keep all my sell items in another room. 😧 Smokers can't smell it, so she had no idea the stuff still smelled. And yes, it can be almost impossible to get that smell out once it's in there 😞 Great post Linda!

almagzh I have been buying and selling clothes/items for a couple of years now. I've never had a problem with something coming in smelling like smoke unless they told me they smoked. Your blouses smelled like smoke, individually. It had nothing to do with the box or tissues. End of story!

She and her clothes smell good. Not to sound creepy lol she's a very sweet person just like yourself. That lady obviously has something up with her. Anyways I had a bad rating recently off an item I had at a family's house. 0 smokers she's allergic has asthma and items were washed and like new so yes it came from shipping. petunia07 Had no idea of this. Will share but also will state I've had some that were definitely from the seller. They never stated they smoked and it took 6 washes with line drying 5 of the times to get the smell out. Also used oxi clean in those loads. I think if you get something and have a way to let it totally air out a week outside you could get the smell out with less washes. But did have a few it was only on the outside of box (sub delivery person was only one who smoked thank god) so now I can say it was definitely from them :)

carlysmommma You can always ask the seller to tape over any gaps (corners, seams) in the shipping box. Smoke can permeate cardboard, but sealing off gaps can help. Also, asking buyers so put items in a zip bag can also add to the protection against smoke and rain, too. My wearables are always wrapped in dry cleaning bags.

gailsjewels @linmp1031 I have received a few packages that smelled so badly but worse on the inside. I've known my mailman for 5 years now and he doesn't smoke. I notified the seller and she said yes she smokes but it;s none of my business. My items smelled so badly and I could not get the smoke out of them and it made me very sick as I;m on chemo for cancer and my little girl has asthma so it wasn't fair. I wanted my money back because I paid so much for my items but PM had already released my funds because when the package was delivered I was in the hospital having a 2.5 inch tumor removed form my chest and by the time I did get home PM had already released the money to her. This has happened a couple of times. I wish people were just honest but i guess that's asking to much. Btw, you use to follow me and your not now. PM has been having some issues with this and they say there working on it but many people aren't aware of it. I've had many people ask me why I'm not following them anymore so I go to check and I'm not. If your not aware you may be loosing followers. Anyway, I hope you'll follow me again. I didn't want to get in trouble so I just lost a lot of money to here. She was so very rude to me when I asked her about it.

abstractdreams @gailsjewels : You won't get in trouble for unknowingly buying fakes, but the seller should be penalized. For selling fakes and being dishonest...Posh wants that info to improve the site. You can easily report without revealing anything about yourself by pressing the button on the top right when you go to a closet. It allows you to report or block.👍

My mail carrier doesn't smoke & I generally ask if seller is a smoker, but some sellers spray perfume on items before sending. I have Lupus & cannot handle most scents without getting a migraine!👎

mmoon_child It's a disgusting addiction but that's just it-an addiction. It's hard to get over addictions to anything if you've ever had one. Mail carriers are people too, people who unfortunately have a bad addiction. It's inconvenient but not their fault their dealing with addiction...I'm sure it's a bad habit they picked up from having that job in the first place! Please, just be a little more considerate. princesslaiya Real talk I waited for the mail man in the corner probably in the bush because I was a bit coocoo at the moment for his prior actions and he comes to my gate mind you my front door is approximately 30 feet from sidewalk gate. So he comes to the gate pulled his sign for the package machine out and signs my $#!+ for me and launches my package over the fence in my face. Woohoo that is were coocoo went bad. Crazy.

sondysquirrel Yes...im a smoker, so heres a tip...wash 2times & also when drying, use 2 lavender or your favorite scented drier sheets both times after @ wash! Store your inventkry in a non-smoking room or sealed away from smoke! 3 x on gentle might be best! 3rd time no detergent! Or use woolite or this other brand i use for babies & sensitive skin...hmmmm. brain fart? Ill get back to y'all on that one!

abstractdreams @sondysquirrel : It's not just non-smokers being picky about the smoke...many people (read my Fibro-Girl listing) are negatively affected healthwise by smoke. I posted this jn support of sellers who were being wrongly accused of lying about smoking to buyers who were very upset.👍

scoops639 I realized this with a vintage Coach purchase. The seller assured me there were no "funky smells." When I opened it, it smelled overwhelmingly of smoke. I was disappointed! It aired out a couple days and went away, to my relief. i passed the mail carrier on the way home the next day . He was smoking a cigar...a CIGAR! It was raining the day my purse was delivered, so add humidity to cigar smoke, and you get a seriously "funky smell." So glad I realized what happened and didn't accuse the seller.

abstractdreams @katielady1982 : It's nasty & pretty upsetting for people who have chronic health issues effected by smoke, perfume etc.! I had a mail carrier who smoked years ago & recently lost a great carrier to a route change & got another one! And this guy's rude on top of that!👎🏽

920designs I wonder if smoke outside a concealed box affects the contents. I've received packages where the items marinated in smoke. I have left them in garage & after a good cleaning or 2 are useable. But the smoke smell in my house radiates, pick up on it quick that's why I leave it in garage, for a bit.

Idk why, we fix things without drugs or surgery! I get that some pol think they may lose their job based on what the diagnosis is...but I'm not the Doc!! I hope you don't die of embarrassment! I mentioned about perfume! Bigger issue for me, I have Lupus & lung probs!👎🏽

beckey68 This is crazy. I am so stealing this,( if it's okay with you ) with my lung disease I can't be around smokers at all. The smoke is bad for me and with my being on oxygen the spark or flame could kill me, so there is no smoking in my house or anywhere near me! Thanks for the great post! 🚭🚭

abstractdreams @beckey68 : Did you read some of the last posts? Dawn is an actual mail carrier in FL & said that this guy (and any other carrier smoking on the job) should be fired!! It's apparently not in their contract... A bigger prob for you would be Posher's who unknowingly douse their packages with perfume prior to sending! That's happened to me more often than smoke.👎🏽😒

beckey68 So far neither has happened, I received some wonderfully clean smelling clothes, some not so clean, but no smoke or perfume, yet. But I would like to post this to let people know how smoke affects me. That way if they are a smoker they will know. I believe most people are inherently honest, that they just don't think about the things they do and when caught making a mistake they get defensive instead of apologetic. But that is human nature
