"Suppose the world brought diadems To tempt us, crusted with loose gems." Sure, okay. But some of us would still prefer the earthy colors and modernist edge of these stone-look glass cabochon dangles set in chunky brushed-brass. Vintage 1999 or early 00's signed Graziano. I'm scrabbling around in a jewelry drawer to find the matching brass backs. FYI, I was calling these agate, but an expert on vintage jewelry says this designer made glass that simulates the look of stone. Thanks, thevintagwdiva

rmccouture I was wondering what a "break" actually meant. I forget!

acertainage @thevintagediva They are heavy, which is both why I'm selling and why I believe they are stones. I added a note saying I'm not sure whether they are semi-precious or simulated agate.

acertainage @thevintagediva They do not feel cold to the touch. I wish I could describe them more knowledgeably. The top of each is paler and has a less pronounced stripe, so I thought that part might be mother of pearl, but without knowing more I just searched for stones used in jewelry making and the closest seemed to be agate.

acertainage @thevintagediva I have not been able to find the backings. I am not sure if there are signs of wear, since the metal on these had a distressed/rustic look when they were new. I will say they have been loose in a drawer with some other costume jewelry, not protected in a felt pouch like my pearls! So there is almost certainly some storage-wear.

acertainage @thevintagediva As far as the stones (or simulated stones?) go, the third picture best shows the difference in color between the top, paler, one and the two bottom ones. They are all flat when viewed from the edge, have a MOP-like sheen, but the bottom 2 on each have some taupe striping.

acertainage @thevintagediva One more note, as I have them in front of me right now: the top stone on one of the earrings has an irregular surface - not completely flat/smooth - which makes me think it's natural. And of the six stones, no two are exactly alike. That also made me think they were a natural substance, not manufactured. Of course, I'm just guessing. Does the irregular surface on one stone tell you anything?

acertainage @thevintagediva A fourth picture added to show you the irregular surface on one of the stones.

acertainage @thevintagediva Thank you, if you could find out that they are something special, I would be thrilled. As to age, I just remember going through a costume-jewelry buying frenzy when a new Nordstrom opened near my home back in Miami, late 90s to early 2000s, and though I don't recall specifically when I bought them that's as accurate as I can be. If I claimed they were older, I'd be inventing a memory I don't have. 😊 But if you happen to learn they're older, I'd be happy.

acertainage @thevintagediva Do you happen to know of a source where I could purchase backings in the correct metal? I don't like offering them with no backs, and the replacements one finds are either silvertone or shiny brass.

acertainage @thevintagediva Thank you! Revising my description now, and I always appreciate knowing more on this subject. I have very few pieces to sell unless I decide to let go of some of my mom's and grandmother's costume jewelry, which I may eventually need to do but right now it would feel like selling pieces of them. 🌷 I hope to learn more so I can recognize good pieces when I visit thrift stores, and maybe expand my PM closet beyond selling the few things I bought for my own use.

acertainage @thevintagediva Oh, I know too well how it feels to sell something or give it to Goodwill and later find out it was of value to collectors. Toys are an example. I gave away a big box of 1950s German knock-offs of Disney figures, thinking that only licensed Disney had value. Later I learned that the 1950s knock-offs are worth more than the real thing because of rarity.
