@rkleinpeter The material is like umbrella/ rain coat material. It's not thick, quilted cotton like "regular" backpacks. The only padding are the shoulder straps. The pouch that it folds up into is the inside hanging zip pocket.I don't know what you are looking at using it for but my teenage girls use it for pool, beach, sometimes overnight clothes, and have used it as their carry-on. This could be used as a school backpack they just have others they use for that. 😉

@montgomerykid Size wise it would be great for school! The shoulder straps are well padded like a normal Vera backpack and the pocket are large. It is made of material like a rain coat. So thinner than the quilted. As long as you were careful with the bottom corners, I think you would like it. It's very light weight with lots of room. Hope that helps😉

@montgomerykid I have personally never carried one but both my daughters have one and they really enjoy having them. The straps do have quite a bit of padding, but no padding on the rest of the backpack. There is surely no extra weight added from the backpack itself.

@tiffaninoelle - Vera only made this style in these two patterns. It is same material, as say, a rain coat but has padded straps and folds up into one of the inside pockets to make it a pouch! Super cool but probably not ideal for a lot of weight on a daily basis.

So if you purchase this by itself it is $25. If you purchase this and another item that is $10, this would be $22.50 & the other item would be $9.00. I hope that helped to clarify.
