@sparkle54 hello. This is 100% polyester. You can certainly use it as a cover-up although I'm not sure it's something you'd want to get chlorine or salt water on as it may cause bleaching over time.

Hi love this! Im very sensitive to certain fabric and some things sher things are ruff and itchy on me. Is this a soft smooth feeling or is it on the rough side? I need things to feel soft like silk not rough lace costume feeling if that makes sense.its hard to explain. Im not at all trying to be rude either just super sensitive its really annoying :( im sorry for askibg

@tessbear good morning. I completely understand the reason for the question so don't be sorry. I don't want to say this is as smooth as silk because it's polyester but it is what I would consider soft and very lightweight. I sold quite a few of these and they have gotten 5 star reviews so everyone has been very happy with them, so much so that they sold out and I had to restock.
