@centsible_wear people are freaking the F out over here. It's ridiculous! Or they are unprepared and going to just "tape windows". Yeah taping your windows against a 185 mph storm... that's gonna work... Smh. If you're gonna be that stupid you better be TOUGH too. We are staying. We have secured the boat and the motorcycles. I'm securing my inventory warehouse in the morning.
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear we have hurricane rated windows, backup generator, tons of fresh water [25 gallons of fresh water in reusable jugs I laugh at the people buying 12 cases of water... suckers!!]
Sep 08Reply

@centsible_wear I'm cooking up a storm [pun intended] of homemade red sauce, Kung Pao veggies, all kinds of pasta [gluten free for me] so we can just heat up whatever on our camp stove with propane tanks if the power is out. Lanterns, batteries, downloaded two way radio apps for iPhone. Charging up all the tech. Giant YETI cooler. Freezer bags filled with water to keep the YETI cold. We are READY! ๐ช๐ช๐ช bring it on, Irma you BIOTCH!! ๐ช๐ช
Sep 08Reply

centsible_wear
@shopofthemoment Same here! Unprepared....and procrastination is what I am seeing. This is no joke. Tape is not going to help in any situation....I cant stress enough that people need to educate themselves, their family and their friends, or GTFO! This is not a joke by any means. We are staying as well. We have everything pretty much secured at this time time. You are in my thoughts, please stay in contact!
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear are there long gas lines by you? And check the pic I'm posting now ๐
Sep 08Reply

centsible_wear
@shopofthemoment the 2 ways, be careful with that.... i have heard that Firechat, and Zello are both will not work if you dont have internet or data.... so if its one of those, you might be better off with just a reg walkie. We have a regular walkie talkie that we use for emergencies, such as this. We are also cooking like crazy. got stuff set aside for several days and then some.
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear my understanding is that Xfinity [comcast... Yuck!] is setting up 200,000 free wifi hotspots throughout Florida that you will be able to latch onto for use with Firechat. So they are somewhat redeeming themselves there with that.. Still think they're crooked but I appreciate the gesture they're making.
Sep 08Reply

centsible_wear
@shopofthemoment They were long when I refilled yesterday.... I waited about 30 minutes in line to fill up. I had to travel to find it though. What was yours like?
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear regular walkies would definitely be optimal but I didn't have time for that in addition to everything else.
Sep 08Reply

centsible_wear
@shopofthemoment If it works......that's fantastic. But I do not have much faith in Comcast.
Sep 08Reply

@shopofthemoment LMAO at your last photo!!!!
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear read comments from yesterday ๐๐ Wawa gas line experience. Was ridiculous! It looks like the gas lines have stopped bc everyone is going home to secure their property. I may venture out with my truck for some gas late tonight. It's so dead on E that if I have to wait for gas I'll be pushing it to the pump. Filled the other vehicles. Have 100+ gallons of gas in the boat and a siphon kit which we could use in a pinch.
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear my brother will be at the first responders category 5 complex in palm beach county. If things get too hairy we can always bug out to there. That structure is specifically designed to withstand a cat 5. They want all the first responders there so they are ready to run as soon as the worst is over.
Sep 08Reply

centsible_wear
@shopofthemoment Ugh!!! Yeah, sad that so little of supply in such a state of emergency such as this. Seems like you guys got everything else you need. I will keep ya in my thoughts for sure.
Sep 08Reply

shopofthemoment
@centsible_wear you be safe over there too! This is a huge storm and the inclement weather will be far reaching, even if the brunt of it hits here. If you need to bug out, they've made the turnpike northbound both ways as of earlier today so evacuees can get out in a safe amount of time.

11 am advisory from Max Mayfield: NHC is confident of this storm track: Direct impact of the eye will hit at or near Key West and travel up the west coast of Florida. East coast of Florida is still under hurricane and storm surge warning. We will experience tropical storm force winds and possibly hurricane force winds. It is expected to re-intensify to a Category 4, with winds of about 145 mph.

Sep 09Reply

@momisnuttz they ordered the evacuation of 700K people from Miami-Dade county alone. That doesn't include Monroe County [the Keys] Broward County [where I live] and Collier County [SW Florida]. That's the majority of southernmost Florida. The roads were gridlocked. No gas to be had. People are freaking the F out, as they should be. Have you guys seen any of the video from Turks and Caicos or Cuba? One island, it was said, lost 90% of the structures on it. 90%!!!
Sep 09Reply

@blumoose are they living there now?? Recommended evac for coastal Collier County. If they are within 1 mile of the coast, they need to leave. NOW. Shelters are open but they have to get there before 2 PM or they won't be accepted there. Please LMK what's happening with them.

@shopofthemoment Thank you!! Thankfully they are in Maine until Mid-Oct...I just worry about them "worrying" abt the house! The last spec house my grandfather built was damaged by a hurricane mid-build as well. They just stress themselves right out, but it could be worse. At least they aren't there now!! @blumoose I was building my first house here during Hurricane Andrew in 1992. It's already a headache to build a house without the added stress. Gas supplies have been replenished. The are escorting each gas truck with national guardsmen and state troopers. Assume they're trying to avoid hijack/price gouging. If they can evac, they should leave now. It's going to be a rough ride. I think I got your message? IDK this whole week has been a blur.

Sep 09Reply

@shopofthemoment Yes...2005 I think was the year when their spec house was damaged. It should have been built & sold, but their builder was a crook!! They've always lived in a condo & were really lucky๐ I'm sure you are relieved that you aren't getting the direct hit, as you get so many over there!! My friends just left Vero & moved home to Maine, they had enough๐๐ช๐
Sep 09Reply

shopofthemoment
@blumoose Crooks are everywhere. I ran into a massive crook on my second house. Built in 1999. Luckily I had taken most of the deposit and used it for extras so the builder HAD to finish the house to get his profit out. But mine was the last house he finished EVER. The vendors tried to sue me once I took title because he had not paid them. But I had a release of lien from him and vendors unfortunately had to eat it.

Sep 09Reply

@blumoose we are chock full of crooks here in Florida. I have found the trick is to get a large developer involved. They vet the builders and require them to have sufficient cash reserves based on how many properties they are building. I built the two and that was enough.
Sep 09Reply

shopofthemoment
@blumoose I don't have good luck with real estate. My third house [an old house built by an artist in the Delray Beach historic district] I got completely screwed on when I sold it. I was in the middle of a divorce and my ex ended up with most of the equity out of it.

Feel so bad for the people still stranded down there. It looked like a war zone from above. On the ground living it must be even worse. It's one thing to survive the storm, but the aftermath is sometimes worse. We lived in homestead on the base next to the zoo during Andrew
