Just to help those who don't have a pair and are looking to buy some! I've seen multiple fakes on here, easily spotted now that I have real Burks. Fakes have a smooth, non textured footbed while real ones have a defined shape. The straps are very low quality. The real ones have Birkenstock "engraved" in the footbed rather than just printed on. I've noticed people list them NIB/NWB but the fakes I recieved also did so watch for those as well. Please feel to comment more tips as I can't list all:)

This is great, thanks for posting!
jenco7
@frindlerta you're welcome! :)
wendyzeee
Thank you so much for posting this I did not even realize that they made fake Birkenstocks. I think I am going to buy my Birkenstocks straight from the factory or from the shoe store rather than on here! Some people you just can’t trust. And it seems to be rather a shame!
jenco7
@wendyzeee I didn't know either when I first purchases these. In fact, I didn't know until someone pointed it out, sooo embarrassing! My first actual pair were at an authorized retailer since I didn't trust anyone here. But it's fairly easy to spot fakes now after 2 pairs
wendyzeee
@jenco7 I hear what you’re saying honey. It is absolutely ridiculous that people are allowed to sell fake items on this site! I have sold many items that are all authentic and I could not sell a fake item with a good conscience. Some people have no scruples whatsoever and that is terrible!
jenco7
@wendyzeee it's a real shame people do this here :/ and it's not limited to these either! I have seamless skirts from e bay from years ago and saw the same ones under urban outfitters saying the tags were just torn off asking $20 a pair when they were a dollar online! I'm super careful here before purchasing. Still enjoy it but there are shady listings every once in a while.
wendyzeee
@jenco7 I just sold a Louis Vuitton key cles and it was absolutely authentic! I even enclose the receipt with it! The girl was very happy with what she received and it was absolutely authentic. I don’t sell anything that is not authentic! I could not do that with a good conscience because I was brought up right! Some people just don’t care and it is so rude! Take care and bless you my dear!
jenco7
@wendyzeee it's so very rude and sad :( but I'm so glad for you and your sale! :) I hope you have a wonderful weekend :) take care! 💜
bewhooyouare
I know that all Birkenstock styles have "Birkenstock" embossed on the side, but I think that some of the older Papillio styles have "Papillio" embossed somewhere on the uppers and then the Birkenstock logo stamped on the side. I could be wrong (meaning that my coveted, funky pair of old Papillio Gizehs are fake). But here is a link to Englin's footwear. Note that they say "almost never"..
http://www.englinsfinefootwear.com/blog/are-my-birkenstocks-fake/
geranium3121
Thanks for this post! I often tip off sellers/buyers & report listings that are obviously fakes, but who am I... the Posh police? 😳 It’s a real shame that there are so many here. Makes it difficult for those of us selling authentic items when buyers are wary, & it bums me out that people are getting scammed. I’m happy to give my opinion on the authenticity of any potential Birkenstock buy here if any fellow Posher wants to reach out... just comment on one of my posts. ✌🏻
jenco7
@bewhooyouare Yes! I wish I had more room for photos. The real ones have birkenstock fully stamped into the side of the bottom of the strap while fakes have only the outline of it stamped. As if it were done by a cookie cutter if that made sense.
jenco7
@geranium3121 Thank you as well! You've helped me before at least twice I want to say :) I've also felt like a posh police commenting how the listed birkenstocks are fake but I always just get a comment back saying I'm rude and disrespectful because they're 100% real when they obviously aren't. But I'm sure there are buyers that will take the sellers word for it and that's what I'd like to prevent! It was such an embarrassment for me learning that I was scammed and a pain to get $100 back.
geranium3121
@jenco7 Happy I could help! If sellers are defensive, that’s usually a tip off too... I just hope potential buyers appreciate my effort. I know I’d appreciate being warned so, do unto others, right? 😉 Thanks for letting your lesson be a teaching moment for others. Have a great weekend & Posh on!
bewhooyouare
Going back to your original post though, a printed stamp of "Birkenstock (not embossed) on the lower side of the uppers doesn't mean 100% of the time that they are fake. I posted the link above where they say "almost never." I found with older Papillio Birkenstocks that they used the printed stamp (but all of the hardware, of course, has Birk engraved into the metal). But let me know if you guys find otherwise!
lindsayprater
Thanks for sharing this! So, I'm new to poshmark (amd new to buying a lot of name brands, actually) and I've dealt with returning (and accidently buying) multiple fake items already. REALLY frustrating! You just have to be super careful, and skeptical. Could I tag you on a pair of birks I just bought and get your opinion on authenticity? I'll post it to my closet. Others are welcome to give feedback, also!
jenco7
@lindsayprater Of course! :) I'll be more than happy 💜
geranium3121
@lindsayprater Look for a small 4 number/letter code stamped/imprinted into the suede footbed underneath the size/brand. Fakes won’t have that. The buckles, soles, etc. are commonly faked, but the code is never there. ;)
44vtgclosets
@jenco7 thanks!
sara_snow
could i buy just one of the pairs of shoes???
jenco7
@sara_snow not for sale :)
sara_snow
@jenco7 oh, i’m sorry
jenco7
@sara_snow No worries!!
sara_snow
@jenco7 do you have any for sale?
jenco7
@sara_snow sorry, these are my only pairs :( I did however see some earlier that were at a great price! If I see them again I'll tag you :)
sara_snow
@jenco7 ok, wonderful. thank you so much
kalispell
@jenco7 just so you know I’m pretty sure there’s a way to mark Not For Sale on your listing ...so other poshers don’t get confused:)
jenco7
@kalispell Would it still come up for others though?
kalispell
@jenco7 oooh idk I never thought of that! I guess as long as others keep sharing it🤷🏼♀️
jenco7
@geranium3121i just tagged you in two I'm not sure about! The second one looks fake but it has the 4 digit stamp?
jenco7
And user accessworld has the same pictures which is weird
yogiastrid
Great information!!
missy980
Thanks for sharing but it seems even the fakes have all the info listed. I’ve study them and they have some pretty good reps. I’m looking for a pair but I may have to buy new. I don’t support fake item! Thanks for sharing and I too will share this info
nanron_1
Thanks so much for sharing.... your appreciated!
ashjs
A lot of fakes aren’t necessarily fakes which makes them harder to spot! For example my sister bought “fake” birks in Thailand. But they weren’t actually fake, they were factory rejects so they broke pretty easily.
safarimg
I wish more people could see your post!! Omg! I have warned a few people of those fake birks! And the sellers get rude and are like no they are real and I’m like bro 🤦🏻♀️😒 they are as fake as kims k ass! 😂✌🏼
jenco7
@safarimg omg right?? Love your comment! Lol
missy980
The fake ones are much wider as well. The 38 look like they could fit Ronald McDonald the foot bed be wide as twin bed. Wish people would really stop it.
skittles8
Hi! Could you please help me in determining if a pair of birks are authentic or not? I noticed the seller is selling Victoria’s Secret backpacks that are fake and I’m guessing the birks are also :)
jenco7
@skittles8 I can :) you can tag me or give me the username si I can look
jenco7
@skittles8 So they do have the 4 digit stamp which is like a serial number, I'll tag someone else just to double check!
skittles8
Yea that’s what I noticed and wasn’t sure about! :) but yes please just lmk
jenco7
@geranium3121 I tagged you in one, has the stamp, but the bent strap and foot bed look different to me. Might just be newer??
geranium3121
@jenco7 I think you’re right! Very suspect looking. Look at the other listings in the closet as well... 🤔
jenco7
@skittles8 I don't know how bad you want these (for the price) but they do look weird to me! I think the shape is off too @geranium3121
skittles8
Thanks for all the help!! :)
geranium3121
@jenco7 I agree w/ you... I wouldn’t risk it. They do look off.
warwick4
Thanks so much for posting xo

@mqpollard
jenco7
Neverstoploving has fake birkenstocks for $100, deleted my comment, and is looking to trade $125 worth for her knock offs! And proceeded to say I'm only attacking because I can't afford $100 shoes lol
taniamercier
Thank you soooo much for the info.
jenco7
@taniamercier No problem! :)
jhays5
I see fakes all the time! Thank you for posting so others know.
jenco7
@jhays5 same here! Thanks for sharing :) super cute closet btw!!
jhays5
@jenco7 thanks so much! You too girl!💗
kmh434
So sorry, can you please clarify how to tell nock-offs from the real ones? Is it the color of the foot bed label and how wide the foot area is? I have purchased 3 different pairs off posh and 1 from a retail store. They all 4 pairs have the buckle name, side strap name and the souls all say birk. Thank you for your help 😁
jenco7
@kmh434 so sorry for the delayed response! I really find the difference by looking the footbed. It's not as contoured/defined, and unless they're the vegan ones, they should have 4 numbers engraved in them. And the straps on fake ones totally look like cardboard and are thinner than authentic ones.
jenco7
@kmh434 Where the fake ones are bent from storing, it leaves a pretty noticeable crease. As far as size, the fake ones I have(size 38) are bigger than any authentic 38's. they dont have any numbers engraved or the logo on the footbed is simply printed on there vs imprinted/engraved. If the straps are leather, it should have numbers on the bottom.
jenco7
@kmh434 Non leather have felt but the straps are still thick. I'm going to use Neverstoploving birkenstocks as an example for the stamping, in her picture, the strap is bent from storage. No authentic ones I have out of 7 pairs have any bent straps at all no matter how roughly stored they are. The footbed looks like cork and cardboard, plus the number 38 and birkentock logo look simply printed on.
jenco7
@kmh434 That link in one of the pictures on this post is good too :) and if in doubt, alot of people on here will be glad to check out pictures and pitch in their thoughts!
kmh434
@jenco7 thank you!
melenie1012
Would you take $140
girones
Trade?
smyeager
@jenco7 Are the ones with the golden writing the fake ones? I have definitely liked some pairs that are just flat on the bottoms and look like those! Thank you for posting this!
jenco7
@smyeager yes! The fake ones are yellow, but there are some authentic birks that have yellow instead of black or blue. It's the material that really give it away. Fakes will just look very cheap, like cardboard
raidena
@jenco7 I am not ding the 4 digit code you refer to. I see the eu sizing, the 260 below that and then the us sizing I.e.
L9 M7.

THANK YOU SM!!
geranium3121
Birks come in sizes up to 16, I believe, but never in half sizes, as far as I’m aware. There’s a blog at http://www.ilovebirkenstocks.com/blog/category/spotting-fake-birkenstocks-part-3 that has lots of awesome info that Poshers will find useful. The whole blog is super helpful & will answer just about any questions anyone may have about Birkenstock. It’s nearing sandal season & the fakes are listed in abundance already... Such a bummer:(
adelynphillips
Would you sell the three strapped one by itself? If so how much?
jenco7
@adelynphillips hello! Sorry :( I'm not looking to sell these. Thanks for looking 💜
teeliciousmiss
Just wanted to comment that people don't always know they are selling knockoffs. I listed a pair recently and after reading this thread realized they might be fake so I deleted the listing. I would not sell fakes! Thanks
teeliciousmiss
I can't delete due to pending offers. How can I take listing diwn? Any help?
jenco7
@teeliciousmiss I totally understand!! Same thing happened to me. But there are sellers that get nasty on here so I made this post to help the buyers a little :)
teeliciousmiss
@jenco7 Thank you hun ;)
jenco7
@teeliciousmiss and i totally forgot to answer! Can't delete listing until all offers are off the table
teeliciousmiss
@jenco7 I just changed to "NOT FOR SALE" until then.
veryblessed4
@jenco7 do you know of any sellers in specific that are selling fakes? I just bought a pair the other day (I haven’t received them yet), but I’m wondering if this is a red flag- the box misspelled tobacco (tabacco) for the color of the sandal. It seems minor, I know, but I didn’t think that was something Birkenstock would overlook. I bought them from a vendor named frindlerta
jenco7
@veryblessed4 that is a little weird! I don't see any red flags on the shoes themselves, but I'm always a little wary about sellers who have a ton of NWT cheap listings if that makes sense!
juliadapron2
@jenco7 could you take a look at a pair that I might buy? the sellers name is unlimitedshoes and the title of the pair I might buy are "Birkenstock Mayari Stone Birko Flor Size 38". Thank you!
samalatriste
Thanks for the info!!
swilley0103
Ugh, I just bought a pair on here about 15 minutes ago, wish I would’ve seen this first! I really hope I’m getting something authentic!
jenco7
@swilley0103 hoping the best for you! 💜
somelissa
@beaachchick maybe this will be helpful
hayleymills669
For most all products these days a generic brand is usually just as good as the name brand. HOWEVER... Birkenstock brand shoes are 1000× better than even it's most expensive fake. I grew up in Fayetteville WV where most hippies never owned a shoe that wasn't a Bork lol.
somelissa
There is another person on here using stock photos to sell fake birks. This is getting out of control 😡
thepalmettoshop
Thanks for posting this it will be a great help 😊
somelissa
This closet @ michellerose501 is also selling fake Birkenstock’s
jenco7
@somelissa just reported her. Hopefully posh finally does something
jenco7
@trsilvia1
jenco7
Oops, tagged you wrong! @trsilva1
jenco7
She blocked me
trsilva1
@jenco7 thank you so much!
somelissa
@jenco7 I called her out on a new listing she just posted and she deleted the whole thing. Then I commented on a sold listing. I haven’t checked yet to see if she blocked me but probably
haydenhall191
Does it come with all 3 pair of them
jenco7
@haydenhall191 not for sale! Sorry, informational only
somelissa
@jenco7 I told 2 girls who just purchased from @ michellerose501 they were not authentic and 1 emailed Poshmark and minutes later all of her listings were removed. Thank God! I was so tired of seeing those listings! I hope she doesn’t make a new account
jenco7
@somelissa omg! It's like only emailing does the trick. I've reported so many with no luck. I did email them about the luis guy or whatever and they got rid of his listings and account too
somelissa
@jenco7 I noticed he was gone! Both of those closets had really similar listings and descriptions. I really hope they just give up because it is sooo annoying to watch all these people buy them without knowing
cmz2005
I just like one par what for them
jenco7
@cmz2005 hi, informational only. Thanks for looking!
valeriadraine
Some authentic Birks have the logo printed on the side instead of engraved (I have quite a bit of them), the cutout on the straps is crooked and not as grooved on the part it sticks to the cork on the fake ones which is one of the big stand outs :) thank you for the notice!
hodgsons14
I actually just bought this exact same knock offs... thank you for warning people before they make the same mistake I did. It's very frustrating...
jenco7
@hodgsons14 very inconsiderate of others too. I was just at Yellowstone over the weekend and saw 3 gals with obvious knock offs branded as birks 😨
hodgsons14
@jenco7 I think it's crazy that people don't notice even after they've had them on. There is such an obvious difference
jenco7
@hodgsons14 they just know the name and assume what they receive is whatever they are :/
hodgsons14
@jenco7 it's a shame. Real Birkenstocks are the BEST 😍
jenco7
@hodgsons14 it really is. I absolutely love mine!! 😍
kayla_hollas
could you go check out the black birkenstock listing on @/omglenda account? let me know how the look?
jenco7
@kayla_hollas they look okay to me, what do you say @safarimg ?
safarimg
@kayla_hollas @jenco7 they do look good I think it’s safe to purchase!
grace21347
@jenco7 normally there pretty easy to identify though once you know what to look for!
rachwonderful
Actually Birkenstock is making a new footbed that is slippery feeling and doesn’t get dirty like the old footbed. So you maybe getting those confused as fake, when they are not.
somelissa
@rachwonderful the ones with the slick footbed are easily identified as authentic. The fake ones will never be made of genuine leather. There have been a lot of fakes on here with half sizes for example 40 L9 M7.5 when authentic ones should have 40 L9M7
somelissa
@jenco7 I just tagged you in a pair. The seller said she got at a Birkenstock store 🙄 I have tried my best to ignore the fakes but it’s so hard!
karleyhansen
Hi there I just purchased a pair on poshmark and it is currently shipping but is there any way u would be willing to look at the pictures for me and see what you think? I never knew there were fakes and your post was very enlightening!!!!
jenco7
@karleyhansen of course!! You can either tag me in the listing or give me the person's username without the @ symbol :)
jenco7
@somelissa those are so bad! I feel sorry for the person who bought them!! I hope they return them
jenco7
@rachwonderful the ones I have are 100% fake. They feel and look like cardboard and it's totally easy to tell by just glancing once you have authentic birkenstocks. Even if they have a different footbed material, it wouldn't take away from the actual shape and most of the fake ones on here don't have the right shape to them
hannahlmcm
Is it possible to buy just one pair of the three?
hannahlmcm
Wait sorry😂 just read the “informational only” thing...
jenco7
@hannahlmcm sorry, says do not buy.. They are not for sale
jenco7
@hannahlmcm no worries! I actually get asked alot!
allisondoreen2
How much for just two of the pairs of shoes?
jenco7
@allisondoreen2 not for sale!
eclothes42
Thanks so much for this info. Saw your comment on one post, and I’m glad I checked this post out- you saved me from buying unauthentic birks. :)
jenco7
@eclothes42 glad to hear!! :)
arsees2324
@wendyzeee not without selling it as a “knock odd” which should include a “knock off price”
love2846
THANK YOU
love2846
@geranium3121 thanks!
geranium3121
@love2846 👍🏼😘
queenbee999
It's TRUE there is fake everything thanks for sharing. I've been a berk wearing since 1980 and I'm surprised that people buy used berks. Since berks conform to the foot of the person breaking them in they really aren't supposed to be worn by another foot other than the original wearer. But if they feel good that's great but no berk will ever fit better than a new pair you break in with your own. Feet
amordeteatro
Hey, Jen. Unfortunately I just stumbled across your article after having just purchased a pair of Birks here on Poshmark. Got them in the mail. I think they are totally fake. Would you mind looking at the page listing and telling me what you think?
amordeteatro
Michlxx is the name listed. What do I do once I’ve purchased fake Birks?
jenco7
@amordeteatro those definitely seem fake to me! Do not accept them, there should be a problem botton of some sort and say you purchased them not aware that they are fake
amordeteatro
@jenco7 gosh darn it! I didn’t even realize people made fake Birks until after I had purchased them and then your article popped up. Do you know how that usually work? Mail them back? Get a refund?
poshpowpow
Hi there. I bought my first pair of Birkenstock’s at a thrift store. I’m having trouble with telling if they are authentic. I’ve read so much info but some is conflicting. Could you take a look and let me know your thoughts? The Birkenstock on the strap is printed not embossed. That is my main concern. Thanks so much.
guajardoboymom
@jenco7 I just purchased a pair. Can I tag you in the post and help to identify if they are real or fake????
jenco7
@guajardoboymom of course!
guajardoboymom
@jenco7 done!! Please let me know what you think
jenco7
looks good to me!! :)
nikkih54
@jenco7 thanks for this information! Unfortunately, I just got duped on Posh and I sure hope I can return and get a refund. The biggest indicator is that the size on the box and sole says L7 M6...and ladies 7 is equivalent to a men’s 5. The box also has the wrong color and material. The uppers feel like cheap plastic. I just don’t understand how people live with themselves by robbing people blind...ugh!
kanii_m
@jenco7 I purchased a pair of Birkenstock’s from
A third party site could you check and see if they are authentic before I accept them?
jenco7
@kanii_m hi! I'll gladly take a look 💜
gennacee
I got duped on Posh with some “gently-used” Birks. I appreciate you posting this to help others.
gimmeheels
@jenco7 hi! Just saw your post. I purchased some Birkenstock’s and was wondering if you could tell me whether or not they were authentic? I bought a brown pair from @ artofsavings and a blue and white pair from @ kayfly1 . This is really disturbing!!
jenco7
@gimmeheels both look good to me!! they are birkis so they're slightly different :)
gimmeheels
@jenco7 thank you so much! That’s a relief! I’m trying to educate myself before I purchase my next pair. 🙏🏻❤️
livia__xo
omg! thank you for posting this. i was about to purchase a pair but never thought of birkenstocks being fake. this helped alot. thank you.
adouglas0510
I grew up wearing birkenstocks and if you actually look at the picture it's extremely easy. I have 8pairs and all of the footbed are the the same. However they are now making some softer beds. those will have a black writing. other than that they should be gold
maryhaberberger
People need to admit that straps are not actual leather.
jenco7
@maryhaberberger they honestly look like cardboard! Birkenstock does sell nonleather, but still is great quality!
sofiane11
Hello! Thanks for your post! I am looking at some birkenstock from a seller but can not tell if they are true or not. Does anybody already order some Birkenstock from the seller : rshep 23? Thank and have a good day!
jenco7
@sofiane11 they look pretty okay!! I personally just get weirded out when they have so many!
lalalalysha
I was wondering the same thing can someone check a ladies page on here and tell me if you think there fakes ?
alixandra27
@sofiane11 Thank you for asking that question. I wish I could ask someone who purchased a pair from rshep23 their opinon of the product they received.
georgiaharter
If they have a leather stamp on the foot bed but have felt lining inside the straps, they are fakes. If they are true vegan Berkinstocks, then they will have a vegan stamp on the heel bed. Was looking to replace my old ones and when I bought a new pair they were felt lined. Luckily I got a refund. A lot of people don’t realize they are even selling fakes.
debrotert2020
@geranium3121 I’ve noticed this and never thought to use it when screening- THX!!!
geranium3121
@debrotert2020 Certainly! 👍🏼💕
wintertriangle
Some of the fakes are "quite good" these days. I just got a pair and you would have to be a very good detective to know they aren't quite right. I've worn birks for 25 years so I know the look and feel, and all the "things to check" but these were "almost right"......I don't believe in calling out sellers because some sellers may not even KNOW they are selling non-authentic Birkenstocks. :( That is the sad part. They are honest but who they bought from originally was not. :(
wintertriangle
@jenco7 Jen,like I said above, some of these are very difficult to assess. All my authentic Birks have that number engraved below the Birkdenstock Made in Germany part. it is usually close to the arch. And it is on BOTH shoes. Can you confirm this? Because I have not purchased any lately....My mayaris and bostons have it in both places and I got them from a certified birkenstock store. However, some Arizonas I just got online from swap site only have that number on ONE of the shoes.
jenco7
@wintertriangle i agree!! I believe it's supposed to be on both shoes. my last "new" pair has it on both shoes! sometimes it's hard to distinguish too because the lettering varies
wintertriangle
@jenco7 Maybe some others can double check this before we make it a "fact". I only have a pair of leather bostons and 2 pair of Mayari. But both shoes do have that number engraved. These are 2-4 years old though. So I feel like we need to be more sure about this before saying yes or no. Maybe others here can check their "for sure" authentic Birkenstocks and report back. :)
jenco7
@tenzy I just want you to know that your selling a lot of fake birkenstocks to unsuspecting buyers:( I see you have a mix of authentic and very unauthentic birks
luvnlaughter
Would you mind giving me your opinion of tuckerweber16 Birkenstock supply. I wish I had seen this post before as I didn’t suspect the huge fake industry...I just bought a pair. I might take to my local store for verification.
_cocos_closet
I never bought Birks before. So real ones ever come with a tag attached in addition to or instead of a box?
rubkcube
@jenco7 I went to Rack Room shoe store, they had four different styles of Birkenstocks, but one style had the "cookie cutter" lettering. Do you think they are selling fake Birks?
amandajorn812
Are you able to weigh in on a pair of clogs I just bought? They seem to have all the right things, to be real, but they have the lining which is glued in. When I saw the pictures online it looked great… in person the glue makes them look like fakes. I’ve been a birk wearer for almost 30 years!
verified_vtg
@geranium3121 I have seen fakes that have the 4 letters/numbers stamped into the footbed, so that's not always 100%.
jamiegower
Does anyone know how to fix the corkbed? My puppy ate mine, and I called our shoe repair shop. Because they have to get the cork sent in from Germany (or whatever country), it’s more expensive to fix ONE corkbed than to buy a new pair. I just can’t afford a new pair lol.
