I got this from the estate of a burelsque dancer. Seems that it has been altered here and there throught the years. No holes or stains on the outside. Very small signs of age on the lining. No tag at all. Speckled with the original multi-colored rhinestones. Still sexy and wearable to this day.

what a find! nothing beats the quality of vintage costuming. so many Bellydance costumes are made dirt cheap in China now and have no resilience. I've purchased a few and had to reinforce the beading and structure. cost me more in the end!

@wnybda True fact! I love thinking about the dancer that wore this.

Do you know the dancer’s name?
jessica_parent
@ramseyfitp I wish! I would've researched the crap out of it.

I wore it once before I had huge mom boobs. It was glorious.

My mom was a burlesque dancer and there was a book written about her. Before that she started in vaudeville in 1926. Her picture is on my homepage. I haven’t read the book yet. If anyone reads it tell me about it please. She’s also in the exotic dancers Hall of Fame in Vegas. It will be her 102nd birthday on July 3 but she died when she was 59 from smoking. She worked with so many people like Sammy Davis Junior, Sammy Davis Sr, will mastin Trio, Bill Haley, the Dorsey brothers etc.

And yes it is true about the costumes. She made all her own costumes. And she had a friend that made costumes for the movies such as Haji Baba and others. Her teacher was a Madame Etienne who also taught Mitzi Gaynor and was Cyd Charisse‘s sister-in-law. She taught dance: ballroom, ballet, modern, tap. But being Greek and Egyptian her specialty was Oriental Danae. Madame Etienne took me and mom to see Ruth Saint Denis in the 60s but I was only 16.
