Oaxaca is one of few Mexican states which is characterized by the continuance of its ancestral crafts. Barro negro is pottery tradition in the state and is one of the best known craft styles in the state. The origins of this pottery style extends as far back as the Monte Albán period and for almost all of this pottery's history, had been available only in a grayish matte finish. In the 1950s, a potter named Doña Rosa devised a way to put a black metallic like sheen onto the pottery by polishing it before firing. This look has made the pottery far more popular.
This a one-of-a-kind handmade barro negro style black clay pottery vase. You can see a hint of the metallic look that is a tradition when creating this style of Barro Negro pottery. These petit gems were once attached to one another as a cluster vase, but had eventually come undone, and now more there are more pieces for the merrier. If you have always wanted to own a piece of Barro Negro pottery, this is the perfect opportunity.
You will NOT find another miniature bud vase such as this one. This is a beautiful piece to add to anyones style, decor, or miniature collection.
