This is a lovely collectible sugar bowl from Seymour Mann's Chrysanthemum collection of porcelain dishes, manufactured in the 1970s. His wife Eda Mann designed the watercolor pattern of the vivid orange and yellow chrysanthemums that appear with Eda's signature on both sides of the bowl.
Additionally stunning are the ROSE-SHAPED HANDLES and the scalloped edge of this dish! Though it was designed as a sugar bowl, it would make a nice salt cellar and an absolutely lovely little vase. It could even be used as a small planter. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs on this piece--it is in incredible vintage condition. I do see two very small black marks (dots) on the inside of the bowl and one under one of the rose-shaped handles but they are glazed and minor, so they've likely always been there.
The Chrysanthemum series included many pieces, such as plates, bowls, glassware, a creamer, a vase, even a cake stand, so if you love this pattern, you could begin the search for other pieces, which is always a fun treasure hunt. Or maybe you already have some pieces and would like to add this one to your collection.
This gorgeous sugar bowl would make a wonderful addition to any decor. It would also make a charming gift.
