The frame bag was a mainstay in the 1950s and well into the 1960s. A solid frame created the shape with a brass or gold clasp on top. A short handle kept them classy. Updates were to make them in shiny patent leather for daywear and satin, silk or velvet for evenings. This vintage, near perfect example is made from a deep navy or midnight blue satin and is lined with shimmering gold silk. It has soft rounded corners and the rich material is ruched towards the middle of the bag. The gold tone metal frame, handle, clasp and hinges are in mint condition. The clutch is 9" wide along the bottom and tapers to 7"across at the top. The clutch is almost 6" in height, up to the frame. If you include the handles, while extended, the evening bag is a full 8" tall. Surprisingly, there is quite a bit of room inside the clutch to bring along necessary items that you may need for an evening out, including a cell phone. The purse has been used just a few times over the past 40 years, for special occasions. Although you cannot see it in the pictures I took, there is a very slight blue mark on the bottom of the inside of the purse. You can't see it if you open the purse and look in either. You need to try and widen the purse and know that you are looking for it to see it.
