Our youngest is now moving to Scotland in August to earn his PHD. It’s a 3 year program. We will be going with him when he leaves. Hoping to stay over there for a few weeks. Gathering my plaid. 😅

Today The Ventasso is a rare breed of horse native to the upper Val d’Enza valley in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. Today, there are only around 50 of these beautiful horses left. ⬇️⤵️⬇️⤵️

The Giara is a breed is from the island of Sardinia but is a wild animal that was not purposely mated w/other breeds, unlike most of the horses on this list. They have been around since at least 6,000 B.C. & have been isolated from breeding for most of this time.

There were a small number of wolfs, between 100 & 200, distributed among the rugged Apennine mountains of the central & southern Italy. In Italy, hunting has been forbidden since 1971, subsequently other decrees of the law protect the wolf as a particularly protected species. Today there are no wolves in Sardinia or Sicily due to extinction.
