#1 This is an original 1943 issue of World War II United States Army Technical Manual TM 30-302 "French: A Guide to the Spoken Language". It was distributed to all American soldiers in preparation for the Normandy landings, and covers many useful French words and phrases and examples of words on French road signs. This booklet has some black-and-white illustrations. Amazing slice of American life and perspective, a rare cultural treasure.
This booklet was supplied to all American soldiers who were to be sent to France during the Second World War, prior to the D-Day invasion of Normandy in June 1944. It enabled them to translate the French language and communicate with the local population.
#2 Original 1944 issue of Pocket Guide to Paris and Cities of Northern France" published immediately after the liberation of France, and is part of a series of similar pocket guides covering the European theater, where to stay, local culture and maps of the cities covered in the volume. This guide includes information such as changed travel routes due to the war and even asks people not to judge poor service in hotels and restaurants in the different towns as many people had gone to clean up after the war damage and those who were left were doing their best! <3
