Beautiful and rare French couture necklace by Louis Rousselet circa the 1930s. French lampwork glass beads in shades of amethyst and amaranthine purplesome with a sugared texture, some smooth with an exceptionally beautifully iridescent surfaceaccented by prong-set rhinestone beads. Cleopatra-like fringe collar style, with a hook and tail closure. Strung on wire, which I suspect is not original, some loss of silver plating to the extender chain, as well as some patina on the rhinestone elements and metal spacer beads. The book pictured with the necklace in the second image is for reference only - the necklace it depicts on the left is a early Rousselet for Chanel necklace that uses the same rhinestone elements, similar ruffled glass beads, and though you cant see it in the book, the same extender chain and hook (the whole necklace is visible on the webpage for the Barbara Berger Collection, on the Chanel subpage). About 15.5 in wearable length, and the beaded fringe elements hang down about 1.5.
