Larimar comes from Dominican Republic & is one of the rarest gemstones on earth. Larimar has cloudy whites & blues to reflect its Caribbean origin. Larimar is Leo’s zodiac stone, can be substituted for December’s birthstone & the 11th wedding anniversary gemstone. Larimar‘s hardness on Mohs scale is 4.5 to 5, can be hard as quartz at 7, white sections are softer. Has smooth silky texture & can be easier to cut & handle. As of May 2022, Larimar mines in Dominican Republic have closed indefinitely due to health/safety concerns involving poisonous gases from mines. Larimar‘s price has skyrocketed. Beware, there are fake materials coming from China. Larimar symbolizes tranquility & clarity of the sea & sky, stone represents heavenly energy & balancing feelings w/thoughts.
