harjodunk fyi, you are incorrect about this being a custom thimble. It was manufactured by Simons Brothers (the mark in the top of the thimble is their mark - old English “S” in a shield). It is called the “Louis XV Tim with scroll chased top”. They made these in both sterling silver and gold and the catalogue #135.

baysyde @harjodunk wow, Thank you so much for the information. My grandmother was given this thimble as an anniversary gift by my grandfather and it was purchased at a small jewelry store in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was told it was made by a local jeweler by the name of Meyer Seidenbach who made her wedding ring (which I have and can see it has a completely different hallmarking). So appreciate the information.

harjodunk @baysyde I have been a thimble collector for 25 yrs and I am a member of Thimble collectors International (TCI). Thimble prices have been dropping over the past 5-10 yrs. I went to the valuation area of the TCI website that tracks sales and the more intricate Simons gold thimbles have gone for $200-$300 in that time frame. There are some with pearls diamonds, semi precious stones, pearls or turquoise have gone for higher ($400-$600).
