SUIBAN are Japanese pots that have no drainage holes in the bottom. They are meant to be filled with rocks and used to force bulbs (daffodils, crocus, etc.) or to display a smaller potted Bonsai tree so its pot (which does have holes in the bottom) does not drip water on the furniture.
This excellent pottery suiban has a rich, forest green glaze on the outside and is partially glazed on the inside. It has three feet which make it very stable and has an elegant black rim. The pot measures 8 inches wide by 3 1/8 inches tall. It is in excellent condition for its age and still has the remnant of a very old paper label on the side.
