Clothes with some adornment are more interesting to look at and more fun to wear.” Arnold Scaasi (1931-2015) Revered Canadian designer Arnold Scaasi designed extravagant, made-to-order clothing for many of this country’s most famous women, including First Ladies, actresses and socialites. This is an example of a Scaasi couture ensemble comprising a long-sleeved jacket with padded shoulders and large black and white domed buttons. The jjacket is accompanied by a matching sleeveless dress, also with large padded shoulders, and a back zipper for closure. (For a softer look, the shoulder pads could be removed from the jacket.) The silk fabric is an ivory checked jacquard with a black abstract pattern in a moderne motif that hints at art deco. The cuffs and lining of the jacket are a houndstooth jacquard. No size label is present, but sizing charts indicate the set is closest to a modern size 6.
