atogsounds Is this pendent 2 piece stone. It appears to be 2 pieces glued together. Can you verify? Thanks!

earthnuggets @atogsounds you’re right, this pendant does appear to be an assembled piece. I believe it is made from more than shell, yes

earthnuggets @atogsounds so, I cannot confirm if these abalone shells are indigenous to New Zealand. My apologies, I don’t know the origin.

atogsounds Te reason why I ask all of these questions is because I recently researched a a pendant that looked identical in colors as yours here and also I saw the same colors of 2 other ones you have for sale that that the shell has the same bright blue-green coloring. as the Paua type of abalone (South Pacific) is much more bright blue-green than the Pacific abalone type which is just called abalone. but is not the Paua type.

atogsounds The fact is that they are 2 related abalone. The meaning of the word abalone is "“ear-shell”. Both are ocean Mollusks, but each reside in different oceans (The Pacific ocean and the South Pacific ocean). So that IS the difference - each is a type of Mollusk "ear-shell" or "abalone" but each is distinctly different originating in a wholly different ocean.

atogsounds I am trying to make this more simple showing the similarities and differences. So I hope this makes more sense. The 'visual' difference that I can see between the two types is that, in general, the South Pacific Paua abalone that I have observed showed a much deeper and more prominant coloring of deep blues and deep greens. On the other hand, the Pacific abalone colors, although as beautifully colored, seem to not be not as deeply colored or pronounced. So these are my general observations.

earthnuggets @atogsounds thank you for your questions, as well as sharing the knowledge that you have. It makes sense that shells from different sides of the world display different hues of color. The colors in this pendant are different from the artisan abalone pieces I have in my closet… I didn’t acquire any of them as ‘paua’ shell though.
