Up for sale are rocks covered in acorn barnacles (barnacles without stalks), found off the coast of New Hampshire. Barnacles are crustaceans, related to lobsters and crabs. Adult barnacles are encrusters and will attach themselves to any substrate and once cemented they are sessile, that is, they stay in one place throughout their lives and use their feathery legs to capture plankton.
