Adele Simpson Vintage Black Princess Line Cocktail Dress 3/4 Sleeve Knee Length

Beautiful example of Adele Simpson’s use of textiles, possibly designed by her husband, Wesley. Adele designed dresses, suits and separates for the busy woman in the 60’s to the 80’s. She was part of the post- war group of designers who took 7th Avenue in NYC by storm. Movie stars like Elizabeth Taylor and First Ladies wore her designs. This dress is from the 60’s and was made in US with Union Labor as was the practice in that era. The dress itself is in amazing condition and is a classic design that my mother wore last year to a wedding. She looked fantastic. Note the princess seaming, concealed zipper and the satin trim at neckline and just above hem. The dress is fully lined and the interior hem is trimmed in lace. Small defect in lining in back. There is no size tag, I guess size 8, but use measurements taken flat: armpit to armpit is 18.5 inches, waist is 17, hips 20 inches, total length is 36 inches.
