Alfred Meakin Birds of America Plate, 1940s, England, Audubon, Carolina Turtle Dove, #17
Lovely English pottery plate from 1941 with a beautiful transfer print of the "Carolina Turtle Dove", plate #17 in the Audubon series. It shows a pair of doves sitting on a branch of a tree with white flowers. The plate is a creamy white color, glazed, with an embossed floral design around the edge.
Stamped on the bottom "Alfred Meakin England, Plate # 17, Reproduced from the Elephant Folio Edition of Audubon's Birds of America, National Audubon Society, Carolina Turtle Dove, Columba Carolinensis"
This is the luncheon plate, measuring about 9 inches across. In very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks, it does have a bit of crazing due to age, and a couple of small manufacturer blemishes on the back which was common in pottery from this age. See photos for condition details.
Please see my listings for the other plates in this series. I have seven altogether. Please message me for bundle discounting.
