The Book of Genesis (The history of Creation) Genesis 1:1~ In the first chapter of Genesis pointers: God is a God of order! From the very beginning, before God even created man, He created a place for us to dwell and food for us to eat. That would be the foundation. Always place the foundation first and start with the essentials. cont...

God gave us light! Even in the darkness He made that have some form of light so that we are able to see. So even when we are going through our darkest times, our God is always there to shine the light. To me this says that even in the darkest hours there is always a glimpse of hope. So every vital is the fact that God just spoke "A Word" and all things obeyed. He did not fight with anything to make it happen nor did He "hope" for it to happen. He merely spoke and it happened!... cont...

As such, this shows us how we too have the ability, through faith in Jesus' name to command a thing to happen and that thing will happen! Amen! Additionally, let's look at what sort of light God provided in the Night portion of a day. So is astrology a bad thing? Is it really how us Christians have come to understand it? When we hear astrology, we associate it with a bad thing, myself included until recently. However, the Lord opened my eyes to this a few weeks ago and then reinforced it again today. Oddly enough I have read Genesis several times and this never stuck out to me. cont...

Well back on track, astrology in its pure and untainted form is a blessing from God. It is man who perverted the meaning and use of astrology. Genesis 1:14-18 clearly shows us that the stars are meant to help us differentiate between the various seasons, the day from the night, days from years and to give light on the earth. The sun, moon and stars are rulers of day and night. cont...

So God provided us with a means to know when to sow and when to reap, when to rest and when to labor and even a way to become revitalized! The how beautiful God made everything. God set out to do a thing and it was done. cont...

Not only was it done, but all that was done was deemed necessary and was done orderly and perfectly. Amen! God clearly shows His impartiality as He states that He gave man, beasts, bird and everything that creeps on the earth and everything that has life the He provided food. Genesis 2: God’s Sabbath day. God rested from all work on the 7th day. This rest that the omnipotent God rested was not a rest due to fatigue, it was a rest due to the completion of a “cycle” or better said He rested from His achievements. God did not instruct man to work 6 days and then rest on the 7th every week here in Genesis. God did not command a Sabbath of man in the book of Genesis. cont...

Mention of the Sabbath as it applies to man and as it was commanded by God for man to rest every 7th day was not said until 2,513 years later as we will see in the book of Exodus. God sanctified the 7th day. Sanctification: “to separate from a profane to a sacred purpose.” cont...

Adam was formed prior to the Garden of Eden. God planted this garden eastward of Eden and there He placed Adam, instructing him to tend and keep the land. Adam was to be the “watcher” of God’s garden, protecting the garden from all intruders. So here it’s clear that there was “an” opposing force to God prior to Adam! cont..

God gave Adam a tremendous amount of knowledge! This is known because Adam was given the authority to name all, not some, but all the animals God created. Wow, how amazing is that! Then once Adam named all the animals God presented to him, God did not change not one, indicating He accepted the naming of His animals. This shows the extensive language Adam must have been given by God in order to create all those names. cont..

God also noted that man cannot recreate himself, he is unable to procreate as the animals that Adam named. God made a male and female for the animals, but did not make a female initially when He made Adam. As such, the first surgical procedure with anesthesia was performed, by God! God put Adam to sleep, a deep sleep, removed a rib and then closed the area He opened. Fascinating! cont...

GENESIS 3: The Serpent. Clarification of the serpent and Satan is vital here. Some think the serpent was Satan himself who was transformed into a snake, yet this is not so. The serpent was indeed a snake who was the most cunning of all the beasts of the field, made by God, had the power of speech, had powers of reasoning and deception, walked upright, had knowledge of God’s plan and was used as an instrument of Satan.
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
This serpent was something else! Satan does not have the power to change into the serpent, but he as the power of persuasion and suggestion which he used. In this instance, Satan used the serpent to do his bidding. So we see the serpent come in and begins to engage “the woman”, Eve, in a conversation. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
The first thing he does is ask her a seamlessly harmless question, “Has God indeed said You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Eve then begins to explain God’s command. I wonder to myself, if Eve were given instructions from God not to eat of a particular tree, wouldn’t she think to herself that maybe God commanded this of all things in the garden? Just a thought. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
Anyhow, so the serpent continues with telling Eve that surely she will not die and that God knows that if she eats from the tree that her eyes will be opened and that she will be like God knowing good from evil. Ok, so I see a major problem here that I see daily. Why would Eve want to be on the very same level of God? Why would she want the same knowledge as God, the one who created her? CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
Egotistical and a bit greedy I would say? We are to strive to be like Christ, human beings living a righteous life. I see so many people trying to be like someone else instead of loving who they are and being the person God intended for them to be. So many people are dissatisfied with who they are that they go out of their way to alter what God has designed and to act and fashion another. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
I could only imagine that God is saddened by this. Again, moving on. So now we see the complexity of it all. Just a quick note, the words of Genesis are so powerful and full of knowledge that I cannot begin to address every topic that’s more than worthy to be addressed. I am merely skimming the surface and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead me with the things being addressed at the moment. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

Next Adam indulges in the eating as offered by his wife. Now they’ve both sinned. The bible never mentions that Adam was not came along later, all we know is that the serpent spoke to Eve and Eve in turn ate of and offered the same fruit to her husband. Once they sinned, their eyes were opened and they were aware of their nakedness. With this, they felt ashamed and covered themselves. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
Not only did they cover themselves out of shame, but now they were afraid when God called them because they knew they did something wrong. They also knew that there would be a penalty associated with disobedience because if they did not know this, they would not have hide themselves from God! CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
They would’ve just said, hey ok so we ate from the tree and here comes God let’s just hang out and talk to Him as usual. Adam and Eve in hiding was the start of a whole new ball of blaming, guilt and fear! When God asked Adam where he was, Adam replied that he heard God’s voice and because he knew he was naked he was afraid so he hid himself. Wow, what a lot of explaining for one simple question. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
To me this signifies guilt and deception in the mix. Why didn’t Adam just answer God by disclosing his location? I mean after all, that is all God asked. Why did Adam feel the need to give this huge explanation to God as to why, what and where? This is a pretty good sign of when someone is lying, unsure of something or nervous. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
Then God being the ONLY righteous judge, proceeded to ask Adam, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” How beautiful is our God!! Surely God didn’t ask the question because of a lack of knowledge; more than likely, God asked because He was giving Adam a chance to explain himself. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
God, in asking Adam the question, also reminded Adam of His command to Him, making it clear that Adam did disobey His command and also letting him know that He knows that Adam ate from the tree without being accusatory. God the omniscient, obviously already knew what Adam did, but with all His knowing, He still chose to engage Adam, allowing him a chance to explain himself. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
Adam began to explain himself by beating around the bush and saying that the woman God gave him, gave him of the tree and he ate. Although he was not forced to partake in eating the fruit, Adam blames Eve for his disobedience. Worse, Adam pushes blame on God!! He tells the Lord God that it is the woman “He” gave him that basically caused the issue. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
God then turns to Eve and asks her what she has done and she in turn decides to blame the serpent. Eve used the same tactic Adam used minus the additional blaming God. So Adam blames God and Eve and Eve blames the serpent. Then God turns to the serpent, without questioning him, and speaks a curse over him. CONT...
Sep 04Reply

belladoc
Not only did the Lord God curse the serpent, but He told Satan that he would be crushed by the Seed, Jesus Christ, of a woman, Mary. Then He cursed Eve and then Adam. The first shedding of blood occurred after Adam and Eve sinned as the Lord covered them with tunics made of skin. He then sent them from the garden. CONT...

Genesis 4: Genesis 4: Here we see Cain being born to Adam and Eve and then Abel born as the 2nd son. Cain’s mindset was very different from Abel’s. Cain, the tiller of the land gave some of his harvest to God as did Abel give some of the livestock’s offspring to God, but God only honored Abel’s offering because Abel gave the FIRST of the flock to the Lord. cont....

belladoc
This clearly shows us that the first of all of our increases, that are from God and God alone, ought to be given back to God! Not the 2nd, 3rd or any number after that. We must always remember that if it weren’t for God, we would not have anything at all no matter how “little” or how small. cont...
Sep 05Reply

belladoc
So even when we think we’re struggling and we only have a “mere” morsel, always set aside the first of that “mere morsel” for God and watch how He blesses you abundantly! We see the Lord asking Cain where is his brother after Cain slayed Abel and you can clearly hear the jealous tone in Cain’s reply. He asked the Lord if he is his brother’s keeper.cont....
Sep 05Reply

belladoc
Cain was so outraged that he allowed his jealous nature to spiral out of control to the point where he took his own brothers life! This show us how dangerous jealousy can be. It is human nature that at times one may have feelings of jealousy and as a human you will encounter jealous thoughts and actions of another, but this is wrong. cont...
Sep 05Reply

belladoc
We are not to be jealous of anyone or the blessings the Lord has given them because we don’t know what that person had to endure to acquire what he or she has. Neither do we know how they went about attaining a thing. Bottom line is we’re not walking in that person’s shoes so we should never compare ourselves to them. cont.....

Looking at God deal with Cain, in His ultimate act of love, although cursing Cain, He still placed a hedge of protection around him. He made sure that no one could take his life and if they did, the repercussion would be fierce! So in all of the bad that Cain did God still provided him with protection. How loving and gracious is our God. cont...

belladoc
Another key point is that all the names given to someone in those times had a meaning. For example, when Adam knew Eve again, Eve bore a 3rd son in replacement of Abel whom Cain killed and they named him Seth which means, substitute. cont...
Sep 05Reply

belladoc
Additionally, the place where Cain went to live was called Nod, meaning wandering and because Cain was now a wanderer, that city was suitable for him. This teaches us that when we name something or someone, we should do so with a meaning as God does all things with a meaning and for a purpose. God does not do things “just because.” Blessings and love~SophieBella3

GENESIS 5: In this chapter we see one branch of the genealogy of Adam starting with Seth, the son born after Cain killed Abel, and ending with Noah. Of all the men in this lineage, the bible highlights that the Enoch and Noah were the only antediluvian men to walk with God. Abel, Enoch and Noah were the only godly men to walk with God during this time. cont...

Here we see that Enoch did not die, as with Elijah, for God took them both. According to the bible, Enoch’s history is the shortest of all and yet one of the most profound! This goes to show that it’s not the quantity of a thing, but the quality that matters most. Some may think that Methuselah was the oldest living man, but in truth, it is Enoch who is the oldest of all men. Enoch did not die a mortal death as did the others. cont...

The Lord took Enoch and he remains in heaven with the Father until the coming day of Christ's return at which time he will return as one of the 2 witnesses. Noah, meaning rest and comfort, was one of the Godly men of his time who later had Shem, Ham and Japheth. An intricate lineage for sure. Of 8 male descendants of Seth, only 2 were considered Godly, wow! Blessings and love~ SophieBella3

Their sin and wickedness grieved the Lord and at last he sent the great flood to destroy man EXCEPT Noah and his family! Why? Because Noah obeyed the Lord. He built an ark when there was no rain and had faith in what God had told him. He gathered the animals and his family and loaded up on the ark

GENESIS 6:
The wickedness and judgment of men does not refer to Adam and Eve’s eating of the fruit in the garden, this wickedness refers to the fact that the fallen angels, “the sons of God” took the women descendants from Adam, “the daughters of men” for their wives and they had children. Those children were from a “giant”, angel stock and was not right in the sight of God. cont...

Greek mythology stems from the origin of the fallen angels mixing with the daughters of Adam. The offsprings would naturally be part supernatural and as such possess certain traits. This made it easy for men to see them as “gods”. Some teach that giants come from sons of God, meaning those men who’ve become saved and accepted Christ, and unsaved women, but this is not so. cont...

The mere fact that God instilled the law of reproduction from the beginning of time which states that reproduction is to be between everything according to its kind, clearly indicates that the above theory is false. If the theory was true, then we should see countless giants today. Instead, the giants that were seen, example Goliath measuring 13ft tall, were indeed giants that were made from Satan and his angels. cont...
Sep 07Reply

belladoc
This answers the often asked question, “Where did giants get their start?” Satan’s plan was to do away with the pure Adamite race by ways of corrupting the human race. Satan has 2 sets of fallen angels, the ones who commit sexual sin with the daughters of men prior to the flood who are now bound in hell and the ones who roam freely with him until the day of the Revelation. cont...
Sep 07Reply

belladoc
The ones who roam freely with him are the ones who married and committed sexual sin with the daughters of men after the flood. Notably, there were giants pre and post flood. The reason for the flood was to do away with the impure race, the giants. Satan’s desire to corrupt the human race is so because he planned to stop the coming of the Messiah as God predicted that the Seed of the woman would crush his head. cont...
Sep 07Reply

belladoc
So if the race was corrupted, the Seed, Jesus Christ could not come from this. Satan was successful with corrupting the race minus a total of 8 people, Noah, his wife, their 3 sons and the wives of the sons. This is why God caused a great flood to happen, but preserved Noah’s immediate family and his daughter-in-laws because again, they were the only pure Adamites. cont...
Sep 07Reply

belladoc
Since God had promised never to flood the earth again, Satan knew that there would be no more flood to destroy the wickedness he created. Therefore, after the flood, Satan again came with the same plan of corrupting the race which is why there were giants formed again. Since God promised never to flood the earth again, He came with a different plan and that was when he instructed Israel to kill all men, women and children. cont...
Sep 07Reply

belladoc
By doing so, this would eliminate the giant race, the impure race. God had to do away with all the men, women and children of the giant race in order to fulfill the promise of the Redeemer. Amen!
The bible speaks of Noah being the only pure one during his time. The pureness spoken of does not mean, without sin. This pureness means a true Adamite in physical form, not tainted by the sons of God, the fallen angels.
cont...
Sep 07Reply

belladoc
Additionally, note the birth order of Noah’s 3 sons: Japheth, Shem and Ham. Japheth was the oldest and Ham the youngest, but Shem is always mentioned first. Reason being is because it is through the lineage of Shem that our Messiah, Jesus Christ came and of course because the Lord God does all things for a reason, including the naming of a “thing” Shem’s name means: men of name, honor and authority. Beautiful! Blessings and love. ~SophieBella

Hey Becks so sorry, I am still working and trying to answer as I go along when I can. I think you said you understand now, but just in case you are unclear here goes. Yes the Nephilims are considered sons of God. The son of God are the fallen angels. Nephilim means: giant, tyrant, bully. Any being who was a giant was not of God's doing. The sons of God a.k.a. the fallen angels slept with the daughters of men, from Adam's lineage, and conceived giants. @raninmyheart

Ok ladies here goes, a lot of reading. I've posted my thoughts of Genesis 7 and 8! Loving you all.~Bella
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
Genesis 7: This chapter focuses on the preparation period prior to the 2nd flood. Yes, I said 2nd flood! Many aren’t aware that the flood in Noah’s days was the 2nd and not the 1st flood. In all actuality, the 1st flood happened during Lucifer’s reign when he rebelled against God. Lucifer did have an earthly kingdom that consisted of mortal men in which he ruled. cont...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
So there were men prior to Adam. Yes, Adam was the first man as the Bible does not lie, however the interpretation is that Adam was the first man of “his” present race. Lucifer’s desire to be like and above God is what ultimately caused him to fall. His beauty and splendor caused him to become puffed up to the point that he thought he could overthrow God and sit above him. cont...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
The idea, a sinful idea, was not what caused God to put Lucifer out of heaven, instead, it was the act that was brought forth from the sinful thought. I say this to say that often times we have a sinful thought, which is not right, but it is human nature. That sinful thought we have is not what causes “death”, but instead, it is the carrying out of that sinful thought that leads to consequences. cont...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
A part of Lucifer’s plan was to gather as many of the other angels, who also ruled various planets (Colossians 1:15-18), to be in unison with him in his plan to overthrow the Lord. Silly Lucifer! He said that he would ascend to the heavens which clearly indicates that 1: heaven is indeed above the earth unlike the thought of some that heaven is only here on earth and 2: he was not in heaven at some point; he was on earth ruling. cont...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
So if Lucifer was on earth ruling, what is it he was ruling? He ruled over the pre-Adamite era or better known as the chaotic world, the world in which the fossils and remains are derived from. Isaiah 14:12, Genesis 1:2, Ezekiel 28:11-19 So here we are at the 2nd flood with Noah seeing how our God does things very orderly. When God commanded the animals to enter the ark, they did so paired as male and female of the same species and only 2 at a time. cont...

GENESIS:8 When we speak of the ark, I think many of us have the understanding that there was one window for the entire ark, but as you’ve read in v.5 you see that it wouldn’t be possible for Noah to see the mountains if there was only one window? Notably, the flood did not destroy all the vegetation on the earth as it did in the pre-Adamite era. The vegetation was preserved. CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
Had the vegetation been destroyed, when the Lord caused a wind to pass over the earth to dry up the waters, the earth would have been void. There is no mention that the earth was void neither that God recreated the vegetation. So for 1 year and 17 days while Noah was in the ark, the Lord preserved the vegetation! Sidebar, how many think that our Father God is without form? God has form. He has bodily parts! CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
Genesis 8:21 clearly shows us that He does. He has the ability to smell and He has a heart as well. Even thinking back to the creation of man, Adam, God blew breath into the nostrils of the man. His breath, His Spirit. The perpetual state after physical death is indicated in the Noahic covenant which includes: Earth, all living things, seed time – planting and reaping by man, cold, summer, winter, day, night and generations of natural people. CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
Something to note, just as God created Adam as a mature man and not a baby, so He did with the vegetation. When God planted the garden eastward of Eden, He already had the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil, not the seed of knowledge planted. Additionally, the way the Bible reads in Gen 2:7-9 seems as if Adam was created even before the garden. CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
Indeed, there was no rain prior to the creation of man, however, some teach that there was no rain prior to the flood in Noah’s time, but the Bible does not indicate this. For in the beginning God made clouds for the purpose to provide rain on the surface of the earth. Another misconception is that Noah spent 120 years building the ark! That is an erroneous fact. How could that statement be true when the Bible clearly shows us that Noah’s sons were grown and married. CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
Shem had a son when he was 100 years old, 2 years post flood. Shem was 97 years old when the family went into the ark and they remained in the ark for 1 year and 17 days. This makes it clear that there is no way Noah could’ve spent 120 year building the ark! Another point to note is, that aside from the animals of the ark, Noah and his family, God caused the flood to destroy everything except, the animals of the sea. CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
God promised Noah that never again would He curse the ground for the sake of man nor will He destroy every living thing. I think sometimes we overlook the fact that not only did God destroy all living things, but He also placed a curse on the earth. That was all done because of the evil that prevailed during that time. Again as a reminder, the flood occurred because of Satan’s plan to corrupt the Adamites by mixing man with the fallen angels, the sons of God. CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
The flood did not happen because of Adam and Eve’s eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In retrospect, the Bible says in -Gen 2:17 that God commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, there is no indication that God commanded this of Eve. As one result of this, God cursed the ground for the sake of Adam – Gen 3:17. My thought is, why would both Adam and Eve be punished? CONT...
Sep 09Reply

belladoc
My thought on why each of the 3 were punished is as follows: 1. God punished the serpent because he deceived Eve and caused her to go astray 2: Eve because she in turn lead Adam astray and 3. Adam because he clearly disobeyed God’s command. A final note about Noah, God did not instruct Noah to offer up a sacrifice once they left the ark; Noah did so on his own volition. CONT...

Noah, being grateful to the Lord for sparing him and his family, built an altAr for the Lord where he could offer burnt offerings to the Lord. Due to Noah’s righteous act, God promised to never again curse the ground for man’s sake. GENESIS 9: So God blessed Noah and his family. God put a fear of man into animals. I believe God did so because had He not, the animals would’ve done away with man long ago. Additionally, God gave Noah rights to eat all moving animals with restrictions placed on eating the blood. During the Adamite era, the diet God commanded of Adam was a vegetarian diet. God placed restrictions on not eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. cont...

We also see God making it clear that whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood shall be shed. The shedding of man’s blood, murder, is a great crime against God for several reasons. One reason is that all men were created in the likeness of God and if you murder a man, in essence, you are saying that you hate the creation the Lord has made. cont..

In this chapter we also see that God’s covenant with Noah to never again flood the entire earth and do away with everything He’s created was instated here. As a reminder to the Lord, He created a rainbow to appear in the cloud over the earth. That’s a sign of His covenant between the Lord, the earth, Noah and every living thing. In this chapter we also see the first record of drunkenness. cont...

After Noah planted his vineyard, he drank of the wine and became intoxicated. In his drunken stupor, he laid naked in his tent at which time his younger son Ham entered the tent, saw him naked and told his older brothers. The older brothers then took a garment, laid it on their shoulders, walked into the tent backwards and covered their father with the garment. So my question is this, why did the 2 older brothers address the matter as such? cont...

I’m not certain, but here are some points to ponder. 1) Did the older brothers know and chose to uphold the law of parental authority? 2) Did Ham know the law, but decided to ignore it or was he just foolish? Just a few thoughts. Also did Noah knowingly drink to the point of intoxication or was he unaware that consuming the alcohol would lead to his drunkenness? cont...

If he was aware of the effects of alcohol then is it fair to say that he is partially at fault for Ham’s later, misfortune? If in all actuality Noah was aware, then he left himself exposed which resulted in his lewd behavior. Nevertheless, when Noah awoke and he learned of what occurred, he cursed Canaan, Ham’s son. Look at how easily Hams deed caused his son to be cursed. The sins of his father cause him, Canaan to be cursed. Also look at the power of the tongue! cont...

Noah spoke a curse over Ham and his words became manifest. This clearly shows us that we ought to be very careful when we say something. Warning to parents, be very careful speaking something negative over your children in times of frustration. GENESIS 10: This chapter discusses the genealogy of the sons of Ham, the father of the grandson that Noah cursed. Ham had 4 sons, Canaan being the last one listed and the one whom Noah cursed. Here’s a thought, why did Noah curse Canaan and why is Canaan listed last of the 4 sons of Ham? Could it be that Canaan was the youngest as his father is to his grandfather? Or could it be that Canaan is listed last because of the 4 brothers he is the one whom his grandfather cursed? cont...
Sep 11Reply

belladoc
Or maybe in all actuality, Canaan was the first son, but because of the curse placed on him, he was put last? Just a few thoughts. Anyhow, of Ham’s 4 sons, the one listed first, Cush, had the great Nimrod whose name means rebel or “we will rebel”. Ok, why would anyone name their child Nimrod meaning rebel? Did Cush not know the meaning of the name? Was Cush upset that his brother had been cursed by his grandfather?
Sep 11Reply

belladoc
Did he in fact know the meaning of the name Nimrod and intentionally decide to name his only son that in hopes to one day war against, cause strife and be in rebellion against his family? Hum, just a thought. It seems that during Biblical times, people named people and things intentionally. They knew the meaning of names and as such would affiliate a name with something that had features of that name. cont...

Yehoshua which was later shortened to Yeshua, both of Hebraic origin, was then translated to the English form, Jesus. cont...

It is said that Nimrod not only hunted animals, but he also hunted men! Nimrods accomplishments included the establishment of 2 great lawless ungodly empires, Babel, a.k.a. Babylon and Assyria- in which Nineveh was built. Nimrods empires were great, but his leadership was wicked and his teachings were in opposition to God. Nimrod taught the people to fear him and give all praises to him instead of God. cont...
Sep 11Reply

belladoc
He made it as if all good things that happened, happened because of him. What blasphemy! He slewed anyone who opposed him and as such, the people feared him. Nimrod was the cause of the first anti-God religion since he taught the people to credit all good things to him. Nimrod even went as far as to dare God to send another flood. Seriously?! Let’s look at this. cont...
Sep 11Reply

belladoc
Nimrod used the knowledge he had from his father to portray to the people that he was that mighty to the point where he went so far as to even place a challenge before God and even God wouldn’t take him on. Recall that Nimrod is the son of Canaan who’s the son of Ham who’s the son of Noah. God made a covenant with Noah that never again would he flood the entire earth and destroy all He created for the sake of man.
Sep 11Reply

belladoc
So naturally, Noah shared this covenant God made with his son and this was then later more than likely passed down to each descendant. So Nimrod posing this argument was not him demonstrating bravery or powers beyond that of the average man. On the contrary, it was him marrying wickedness with being clever! Shame! Of the 3 brothers, Canaan had the most sons and from him there stem many nations. cont...

GENESIS 11: The Tower of Babel is to be constructed. This was agreed upon by the people that collectively, they would build a tower. That would’ve been great had their intentions been good. cont...

However, their intentions were to build a building in which they would dedicate the top portion of the building to their gods. Interestingly, the Bible says that God “came down” to see the city and the tower they built. How awesome is that! This clearly shows that God resides above all! Contrary to some false teachings which states that God resides right here and there is no heaven. cont...
Sep 12Reply

belladoc
I don’t believe God couldn’t see the city and the tower from above because as we know God sees all things. Furthermore, did God really have to “see” the city and tower? I don’t think so because God gives all things, men and animals, their thoughts and knowledge. Therefore, the Lord already knew exactly what was going to be built, when, where and how. God is not privy to what’s happening or going to happen; for nothing happens outside of His will. cont...

However, it is man who’s privy to knowledge and it is man who’s affected by the element of surprise; all according to either the permissive or active will of God! He said, “Let Us go down and there confuse their language that they may not understand one another’s speech.” Genesis 11:7 After God confused the language and scattered the people they stopped building the city. They probably stopped because they couldn’t understand each other and because of the distance between them. cont...

As a result, the city they partially built was called Babel, meaning confusion. In this chapter we also see the introduction of Abram, Sarai and Lot. Some of the main characters of the Bible. Abram’s father was Terah, a descendant from Shem’s lineage. Terah had 3 sons: Abram, Nahor and Haran, the father of Lot and Terah’s son who died early. Terah took his grandson Lot, Abram and Abram’s wife, his half sister Sarai and left to go live in a place called Haran. cont

GENESIS 12: One notable thing that popped into my mind while reading is how often we hear people say that Abram was a coward and a liar. Abram’s fear of being put to death caused him to tell Sarai to tell everyone that she is his sister. Abram knew Sarai would be found attractive to many. He thought they would try to harm him because of wanting her, as such, he instructed her to say she’s his sister. cont..,

Ok so a few things to note. 1, yes Abram was a coward at that time or else he wouldn’t have instructed Sarai as he did, nevertheless, Abram did not lie! Sarai is Abram’s half-sister and although half, she’s still his sister. So him instructing her to say she’s his sister wasn’t a lie. Interestingly, Abram went back to the "beginning." This goes to show that sometimes in life when things aren't going the way we think they ought to that we may need to go back to the beginning/basics/our roots. Here we also see strife gaining strength between Abram and Lot, his nephew. Thankfully, Abram exercised unselfishness, humility and wisdom when he told Lot that he, Lot, needs to have his own space. Having said that, he then offered Lot the right to choose where he'd like to dwell; Abram would then take the remainder. Lot took what was the best land at that time, before God destroyed it. That land was Sodom. As we know, to be surrounded by sin and engage in the sin is one thing, but to be surrounded by sin and to have no parts of the sin is another. cont...

So is it fair to say that Lot's level of unselfishness, humility and wisdom were nothing close to his uncle's level? Or is it that Lot desired that area because of the "happenings" of the city during that time? I say that not implying that Lot chose to live in Sodom because he wanted to engage in impure sexual behavior, instead, I say that because usually when people are living in sin, their lifestyle is one of a "festive" nature. cont...

As such, Lot may have wanted to be where the "party" was. As we know, Sodom, of Sodom and Gomorrah, was a place of homosexuality and vile behavior. Hey Becks, Abraham left Sodom and Gomorrah and journeyed to Hebron where he heard again from the Lord and built an altar (Gen. 13:10-18). Abram later purchased a tomb called the Cave of the Patriarchs, as a burial place for Sarah in which he is also buried. That site is located in Hebron. So from my understanding, yes the land belongs to the Jews as part of the promise of God. Abram was a Jew he is known as the father of the Jews. @raninmyheart

Verse 18 clearly shows this when Melchizedek brought out bread and wine during his prayer of blessing over Abram and his blessing, thanksgiving and praise to the Most High God! Another notable matter is when Abram was victorious and the king of Sodom offered Abram to take the goods, Abram basically told the king that he made a promise to God that he wouldn’t take a single thing from the king so that the king wouldn’t be able to say that Abram’s riches were attained from him, the king of Sodom! Pretty bold stance huh?! Some scholars have labeled Abram as a coward, but again we see a tremendous act of bravery. cont...

Had Abram said to the king, “Oh that’s so kind of you, but no thank you I have more than enough,” I would say that maybe this could be interpreted as a sign of weakness. I say that because he wouldn’t have said anything offensive to the king possibly as a result of fear. However, Abram didn’t say that, instead, he came right out and pretty much had a sort of confrontational/offensive reply to the king. cont...

GENESIS 15: Interestingly, this chapter starts with the Lord telling Abram not to be afraid. In the last chapter I mentioned that Abram was not a coward. Being fearful and being a coward are 2 different things. You can experience fear and still press forward, but that does not make you a coward, if anything it displays great courage. Why was God telling Abram not to be afraid? What was Abram afraid of? cont...

I believe Abram was afraid of the repercussions he may face after telling the king of Sodom that he wouldn’t take even a string of thread from him least he attributes Abrams riches to his doing. Take note of how God told Abram that He is his exceedingly great reward. cont...

I’m not sure how many review this verse well, but it struck me to read that God “took” Abram outside. I wonder, was God with Him in a vision and instructed Abram to go outside or did He lead him by hand outside? Just a thought. I am more prone to believe that God took Him outside. Next, notice how Abram said to God that he doesn’t have an heir. Abram yearned to have a child to give his fortune to. This is when we read God promising Abram a child. cont...

Verses 7-9 baffled me; how is it God tells Abram that He brought Abram out of Ur and Chaldeans to inherit the land he was presently in and Abram’s next statement to God is a question. Notice how after Abram brings the sacrifices to God, He then puts Abram into a deep sleep at which time great terror and fear came over Abram. A few things to note: 1) Again we see the Lord being definitively strong with His Words when He used the word “certainly.” God told Abram to know “certainly” that his descendants will be strangers. See, no lukewarmness going on here. Like the Bible tells use, as Christian’s we are to be either cold nor hot, but not lukewarm. GENESIS 16: My I tell you, this part of Genesis always has me shaking my head. So there are multiple things happening here that are just so questionable in my mind. Let’s look at the picture starting with (v.2). 1) Sarai told Abram to go and have intercourse with her servant. 2) Abram listens. 3) Hagar becomes puffed up once she knows she’s pregnant and starts acting funny towards Sarai. cont...
Sep 18Reply

4) Sarai then blames Abram for Hagar’s behavior. 5) Abram tells Sarai to do what she will with Hagar. 6) Sarai treats Hagar poorly. 7) Hagar runs away while pregnant. 8) An Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, instructing her to go back to Sarai. 9) The Angel tells her that her son’s going to be wild and in conflict with others and they in conflict with him. 10) Finally Ishmael is born. cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
Ok so several things are happening here. Firstly, again we see a woman telling her husband to do something and the husband follows. Sarai and Abram pattern the same behavior as Adam and Eve. At this point, Abram was given the future from God, not Sarai so why didn’t Abram refuse Sarai’s offer to go and lay with her servant? cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
Is it that he was in agreement with her because he found Hagar desirable or is it that Abram was a foolish man and Sarai wore the pants or could it be that Abram believed in doing anything to please his wife? Hum, I wonder. Next why in the world would Sarai give her servant to her husband? I know it was customary to do so in those times, but I find it hard to believe that all people obeyed this. cont...
Sep 18Reply

I would think some women refused to have such a thing happen despite customs. Next, the messy part begins. Hagar starts to act as if she’s better than Sarai because now she’s pregnant for Abram, this prominent and wealthy man. In turn Sarai then decides to blame Abram for Hagar’s behavior. Ok so wait a minute, Sarah gives Abram her servant to sleep with, Hagar acts rudely toward Sarai and Sarai blames Abram? Ok I’m confused here. cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
Why is Abram getting blamed again? Sarai called the shot, Abram listened and now he is being blamed. I sigh. Could it be that Abram was a weak man and Sarai wore the pants? Could it be Sarai pushed Abram around? Maybe Sarai was the type who often made mistakes and shifted blame to others for her errors? Just a few thoughts. So now Abram basically said, well you do whatever you want with her. cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
Ok, so Hagar is just like a piece of carpet although she was pregnant with his child. Was it more important for Abram to please Sarai, who made a poor call to begin with causing them to be in the situation they were in and so now Hagar is to suffer because of that? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not condoning Hagar’s behavior at all, however, it is never ok to just mistreat someone. Now let’s look at Hagar, she was totally wrong for being puffed up. cont...

She knew the purpose she was to serve and as such, she should’ve remained in her role as a subservient maid. So trust Him and trust that He will vindicate you when the time is right. Amen glory hallelujah! Thank you Jesus! Praise His Mighty, Holy and precious name! So now, because of Hagar’s nasty ways toward Sarai resulting in Sarai mistreating her, Hagar decides to run away. Hagar started it and now she can’t deal with the heat! My goodness, what a mess! Despite Hagar’s unacceptable behavior toward Sarai, the Lord still sends her hope. He doesn’t leave her destitute and to die in the wilderness. Now the Angel arrives. I find this peculiar how the Angel addresses Hagar by her name and her role, Sarai’s servant. Wow! I wonder, could it be that he was making it clear to her that hey, I know your name, but I also am here to remind you of the role you’re here to play! Profound! cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
Why didn’t the Angel just say, “Hagar, where have you come from, and where are you going?” Just a thought. Anyhow, so the Angel proceeds to tell Hagar the future of her son. Look at the fate placed on her unborn child. One of a wild man, a man against all and a man who all men are against. My word, that’s pretty heavy. I wonder if Hagar’s behavior caused her unborn child to gain such a fate. One could say that Hagar was “wild” based on her behavior toward Sarai. cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
Again, just a thought. Next the Angel instructs her to go back to Sarai and be submissive to her. So although God has placed a blessing on her, He also wanted her to go back. For our God is a God of order. The Angel tells Hagar the name she is to call her son which is Ishmael, meaning “whom God hears” because the Lord heard Hagar’s affliction. Beautiful! Again, despite Hagar’s behavior, Sarai’s poor judgment and Abrams following Sarai’s lead God still blessed Hagar. cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
The Lord could’ve left her in the wilderness to die, but He didn’t. That would’ve solved the issue of Ishmael not being the promised child to Abram, but God, being just, kept her alive because it wasn’t her fault she became impregnated, it was Abram’s and Sarai’s fault. Just goes to show that our God is a just, merciful and forgiving God. Praise His Holy and everlasting name! cont...
Sep 18Reply

belladoc
My final note is, look at how Abram just decided to take Hagar’s word for naming their son Ishmael based on Hagar telling him that she had an encounter with an Angel. Hum, did Abram believe people easily and was just out right gullible or could it be that the Holy Spirit gave him some sort of affirmation? All we read in this chapter is that Hagar bore Abram a son and Abram named him Ishmael. Just another thought. Blessings and love ~ SophieBella3

Genesis 17: God appeared before Abram again to do several things. First, notice how God speaks to Abram; God tells Abram who He is by saying, “I am Almighty God…” before saying anything else. This is the first time we see in the scripture that God classifies Himself as the Almighty God. The Hebraic translation is El Shaddai, El meaning the Strong One and Shaddai meaning the Breasted One. cont...

In essence, El Shaddai really encompasses everything we need. El Shaddai can be summed up as the giver of all our needs. Next, God completes His first sentence by saying to Abram, “walk before Me and be blameless.” God used this preface because He was about to make a covenant with Abram. God told Abram that He will make His covenant between He and Abram, promising to multiply him. cont...

Again we see God going to the extreme with His blessing by not only telling Abram that He will multiply him, but that He will multiply him exceedingly! Hallelujah amen! That is why Abram’s name meaning exalted father, was changed to Abraham. cont...

I love how God is so definitive. So immediately, Abraham was circumcised, he had all the males circumcised no matter the age. Ishmael was circumcised at the age of 13. God also changed Sarai’s name meaning princely, to Sarah meaning queen/mother of princes and told Abraham He will give him a son by Sarah. GENESIS 18: In this chapter we read the Lord again appearing to Abraham, but this time with 2 Angels. We see a clear display of perfect hospitality when Abraham rushes in and tells Sarah to quickly prepare a meal for the men. Abraham had many servants so why didn’t he instruct one of them to prepare the meal? Why Sarah? Could it have been that Abraham trusted no one to prepare his meals and then of course definitely not the Lord’s meal? Just a thought. Cont…

Abraham extended an invitation to God, asking Him to stay for a meal, if He has found favor in him and so God did. The Lord and the 2 Angels washed their feet which was a custom at that time. They prepared for the meal and then they sat and ate as Abraham stood by them watching. A few things to take note of is how Abraham watched as the Lord and the Angels ate; he did not partake in the meal. This was the custom of the time for the Arabian chiefs to not eat with their guests. Cont…
Sep 19Reply

belladoc
Also note how the Bible clearly states that Abraham set the meal before the men and they ate. This is in its literal sense meaning God and Angels have bodies (he set it before them) and God and Angels do eat (they ate)! Next God asks Abraham where is Sarah your wife? Amazing!!! I love it! Notice here again how God asks man a question and allows them to reply as seen with Adam, Eve and the serpent. cont...

This is not to be confused with God not knowing and needing to find out, I think it is merely Him exercising the utmost courtesy! Additionally, notice how God identifies Sarah as Abraham’s wife. I believe this is a display of His extreme nature. Meaning, God doesn’t leave room for error; no maybes in just cold or hot, yea or nay. cont...

He is definitive in all His ways! Glory amen! God’s calling Sarah by her title, Abraham’s wife, could’ve been the Lord’s way of always reminding Abraham that Sarah is indeed his wife. Maybe sort of like a nudge for Abraham to always remember to hold her above others, ie: Hagar. Just a thought.
Again the Lord tells Abraham of the promised son, but this time with Sarah listening. cont...

It’s important to note that not only was Sarah barren, but she also had gone through menopause. So God did 2 miracles with Sarah for the birth of Isaac. God opened a barren womb and He went against what we know as the “natural” child bearing years. What was the pathology behind Sarah’s barrenness? The Bible doesn’t say. We just know that she was barren. Next we read that Sarah laughed at the news of having a child due to her age. Cont…
Sep 19Reply

belladoc
Notice the Bible didn’t say she laughed because she knew she was barren for some other reason; it was because of her age. The Lord spoke to Abraham and questioned why his wife laughed. Notice He did not ask Sarah why she laughed maybe because He was speaking to Abraham and not Sarah because Sarah was eavesdropping? cont...

belladoc
Oxymoronically, Sarah in her boldness and fear belted out, “I did not laugh,” at which time the Lord corrected her by saying, “No, but you did laugh!” Notice the exclamation point after the Lord’s statement. He said that with a great power and definiteness. He did so probably to convict Sarah as she was clearly lying. Wow, can you imagine how God must have felt? To be laughed at. Shaking my head. cont...
Sep 19Reply

belladoc
Anyhow, some commentaries have stated that Sarah might have been afraid that God would take back His promise, but if that be the case, this would mean 2 things: 1) Sarah didn’t trust God’s Word and 2) Sarah didn’t understand the true nature of God. For if she trusted Him wholly and understood His nature, then she would know that God is not one to lie, His Word doesn’t return void and He keeps to His promises! Amen! cont...

I don’t think Sarah lied because she feared God would not fulfill His promise, I think she lied because she feared the wrath of God! Maybe she thought God would’ve lashed out at her. I believe Sarah was very aware that God is a good, great and mighty God and as such He wouldn’t go back on His Word, but instead, He may display His wrath toward her for her mockery and lying. I think she had a flashback of the story of the flood during Noah’s time! Just a thought. cont...

Next we read that the Lord and the Angels rose from where they were with Abraham to head toward Sodom. How beautiful it is for the Lord to say, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing…?” Profound! He considered him a friend and as such, He chose to share with him the mission in which He would carry out, to destroy Sodom! cont...

Anyhow, I will say (v.23-32) clearly show’s Abraham’s “smarts” or cleverness. My thought is that Abraham interceded on behalf of Sodom, each time paying attention to God’s response, pretty clever. Notice how he starts with saying if there are 50 righteous and eventually dwindles to 10 righteous? cont...
Sep 19Reply

belladoc
Why so? I think because with each instance when he asked God, he waited to hear the reply and maybe even paid attention to His body language. Both were indicators to him possibly causing him to say, “If I said 50 and God said He’ll spare them if there are 50 righteous, then that tells me there aren’t 50 righteous, there must be less.” As such, he kept decreasing the number. I’m laughing again and shaking my head. cont...
Sep 19Reply

Next, here’s a thought, do you think God was getting annoyed with Abraham’s constant decreasing of the number? This thought came when I read in (v.30) during the 4th decrease to 30 righteous, Abraham said to God, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak.” This is the first time during this conversation the Bible shows Abraham having concern about the Lord’s temperament and showing homage. cont...

When Abraham first queried God about what He intended to do in (v.23), he didn’t ask for permission to speak, he just started speaking. Then we see in (v.31) Abraham takes it upon himself to speak to the Lord with a decrease in number to 20 and finally he returns to asking for permission again, as read in (v.32). My word. Verse 33 reads, “So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.” cont...

I can’t help to think that the Lord may have been aggravated with Abraham's constant changing of the number after reading, “So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham…”. GENESIS 19: Sodom’s destruction. Two Angels visited Sodom and Lot saw them. Lot went to meet them and bowed before them. Of course this gesture is one of respect, but what I ask myself is how did Lot know they were angels? Was their appearance different from all the other men and women he’d seen before? Did the Holy Spirit speak to his heart as to identify who they were? Not sure about how he knew. Nevertheless, Lot did the customary thing which was to invite them to stay in his home.
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
Note here that the Bible says that the angels ate. Again, we have proof that angels have physical bodies and they do eat. At first, the angels declined the offer, but when Lot insisted, they accepted. Why did they accept? Did they choose to honor the custom of that time or could it have been that because they knew they had to allow him and his family time to leave, they decided to stay at his home. cont...

Maybe if they would’ve stayed in the square, as initially intended, they knew they would’ve destroyed the city at that moment because of the sins of the members in the city. In doing so, they wouldn’t have allowed time for Lot to warn his family, gather them and then leave. Just a thought. Anyhow, they stayed and gave Lot warning to gather himself and his family and leave because Sodom will be destroyed. cont...

Next we read that not only did the men of Sodom go to Lot’s house, but the entire town went! My goodness! What a thought! An entire city is at your front door! They all appeared because they wanted to commit a sinful act of sodomy! They wanted to have unnatural sexual relations with the men! My word! Was this sort of like an initiation? Why’d they all arrive as soon as the men were in the city? They didn’t wait not one day and they all went! cont...
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
What is it that prompted the entire city to go to Lot’s house in search of the angels? If it were a tradition or some sort of initiation, then why is it they didn’t initiate Lot? We know from the Bible that Lot was deemed a righteous man, that lets us know that he was not living as the men of Sodom. So why not Lot? Why was he spared, but they wanted the angels? Was it that they didn’t find Lot attractive, but the angels were aesthetically appealing to them? Just a thought. cont...
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
Anyhow, when they told Lot to let them have their way with his guests, Lot pleaded on their behalf to the point of offering his own daughters. Pretty profound. In those times, it was the custom that the host was to go to any extent to protect their guest, even to the point of death if necessary! Lot called their actions wicked. So despite Lots close affiliation and mixing and mingling with the town members, he still supported righteousness. cont...

Again, in this chapter, we see an example of a person being surrounded in a toxic environment, but making a choice to live righteously. Beautiful! A lesson here is that we should not allow our environment to change us, but instead, we should allow the God in us to change the environment. Amen! Despite Lot’s pleading, the men were adamant about committing sodomy and if they couldn’t have the angels, they were going to have Lot. cont...

So they started to encroach on Lot at which time the angels reached their hands out the door and pulled Lot into the house where they were. Here we see the first case of blindness when the angels blinded the men so they couldn’t find the door. Question, why didn’t the angels go out and stand with Lot when he was defending them? Why did they wait until the crowd started to “press hard” against him before they acted? cont...
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
Another proof angels have physical bodies; they reached for Lot and pulled him in the house. Was it a test of faith or strength? Did they want to see how far Lot would go to make sure they were protected? Or did they not know how far the men would’ve gone based on the limited knowledge of angels? The Bible says in (v.12) that the angels asked Lot, “Have you anyone else here” demonstrating their limited knowledge. cont...

belladoc
Why would they have to inquire of Lot who he has in the city if they were privy to that information? That is proof that angels do have limited knowledge. The angels tell Lot to gather his family and leave because God has instructed them to destroy the city. Lot warned his sons-in-law to leave because the Lord will destroy Sodom, but the sons-in-law took it as a joke. Interestingly, the Bible says that Lot’s daughters never “knew” a man, meaning they were virgins. cont...
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
If that be the case, then this clearly shows that these men were married to his daughters just for face value. The sons-in-laws were probably practicing sodomy along with the other men in the city. How else can we explain his daughters being married and still virgins? Remember, marriages were consummated with intercourse, much like today, the night of the wedding. cont...
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
I doubt it seriously that both daughters just got married simultaneously, that same day and as such didn’t make it to the bedroom as yet! Just a thought. How sinful they were, that even Lot’s offer to give his virgin daughters, wasn’t their desire. They desired to be with the men. The Bible tells us that if we continue to sin and not head the Word of the Lord that He will give us over to a debased mind (Romans 1:18-32). cont...
Sep 21Reply

belladoc
This is God allowing us to have whatever sinful thing(s) we desire. This is a curse and not a blessing because surely the day the Lord gives one over to a corrupt and sinful mind, that is indeed the day of their death! So my brethrens, let us walk away from sin. @belladoc I can't help but wonder what nations arose from Lots daughters lineage. Also I thought back when the two angels came with God to see Abraham that initially it was the trinity the father son and Holy Ghost. I did not realize it was angels and I like you were surprised to read that they all ate.

GENESIS 21: In this chapter, Isaac is born, Hagar and Ishmael depart. Sarah was 90 and Abraham 100 when Isaac was born. Sarah was full of joy and laughter, the latter being the meaning of Isaac. Abraham stuck to the covenant he and God had to circumcise all males in his house or bought by him by 8 days old. When Isaac was still a child, Sarah saw Hagar acting puffed up because she too had a son for Abraham. cont...

So Sarah told Abraham to put Hagar out. Abraham was reluctant until the Lord told him to do as Sarah has said. Was Abraham reluctant because Hagar was the mother of his child or is it because he found her quite attractive? Just a thought. God instructed him to put out Hagar and Ishmael because the Lord wanted to make sure the line in which the Messiah was to come would be separated. So Hagar left with Ishmael and they resided in the wilderness. cont...

Hagar felt she would see her son die and as such she placed Ishmael a good distance from her in the bushes to avoid seeing his death. The Bible says that the Lord heard the voice of the lad. As such the Lord called out to Hagar and told her to fear not for He has heard the voice of the lad where he is. The Lord told Hagar to lift up and hold Ishmael for He will make him a great nation and a great nation He did make him. The Arabs descend from Ishmael. cont...

Abimelech explained to Abraham that he’s unaware of such act at which time, Abraham took sheep and oxen, gave them to Abimelech and made a covenant with him. Just like that, Abraham was quick to rebuke him without having all the facts and just like that he turned around and blessed Abimelech. I think there are 2 valuable lessons here. Firstly, don’t accuse someone of a thing before gathering the facts and second, always be quick to forgive! Amen! Blessings and love ~ SophieBella3

GENESIS 22: Abraham’s faith. I find it interesting how God told Abraham to take his “only” son that he “loves” to the mountain and offer him as a burnt sacrifice to Him, the Lord. My word! Heaven and earth. What a request. Notice how God referred to Isaac as Abraham’s only son, not once, not twice, but three times! It’s not coincidental, for God does all things on purpose. So what could it be? cont...

Could it be that each time the Lord said, “Your son, your only son” that it was each being of the Holy Trinity speaking and attesting to the fact? Additionally, why did God call Isaac Abrahams only son when we know Abraham also had Ishmael? I think for 2 reasons. One, as a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of the Lord’s only Son, Jesus Christ and two, because Isaac was the only son Abraham had in the proper order of the way God has set things. cont...

GENESIS 23: Generally, my reviews tend to be quite long, but this chapter’s review happens to be pleasantly short. So far we’ve read about people who died and the age of their death. Up to this point, the Bible only provided the age of men who died, not women. Here in this chapter, we read that Sarah died at 127 in a place called Kirjah Arba, meaning stronghold of Arba. Note that Sarah is the only woman who died and her age is revealed. cont....

Could it be because she was to be the ancestor of the descendent who’d become the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ? Maybe it’s God’s way of letting us know that He blessed Sarah with 37 more years after the birth of her only child, Isaac. Sort of a way of saying, “I opened her womb later in life at the age of 90 and I kept her from death long enough to watch her child grow to a seasoned age.” Just a thought. cont....

The Bible states that Isaac was Abraham’s son that he begot, but refers to Ishmael as Abraham’s son, the son of Hagar, the Egyptian maidservant to Sarah. See the difference. It’s almost as if the Bible is saying that only Isaac was truly recognized. Despite the separation of the sons, it appears that both sons had a good relationship. We see this in (v.9) when we read that both his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah. cont...

To do so would’ve been customary and in proper order with the teachings and thoughts of Isaac as he was raised by both parents who followed the same religion and it is the burial place of Sarah, Isaac’s mother, the wife whom Abraham loved. So despite how some may look at Ishmael as the “opposer” I would say that this act of agreement to bury their father in Machpelah is a great display of humility and understanding. I’m not sure if many people realize this or make a great fuss about it, but has anyone noticed that Rebekah actually had a conversation with the Lord? She was blessed as well because the Lord spoke directly to her and told her the present and future happenings of the children in her womb. So Sarah had 1 child, Isaac and Rebekah had 2, Esau and Jacob. Should we consider that a double blessing? Isaac loved Esau and Rebekah loved Jacob. cont...

Esau the hunter, was fatigued after a days hunt and went to see his brother Jacob, the chef, who apparently made a scrumptious stew. Esau asked Jacob to feed him with the “same red stew.” It’s this asking of the “same red stew” that caused him to be called Edom which means, red. cont...

Additionally, not to mention that when he was born, he was covered with red hair and had a red appearance, hence his name, Esau meaning hairy. Jacob, meaning supplanter, cleverly manipulated the situation and told Esau to sell him his birthright for a bowl of stew. For Jacob to even present such an offer to Esau suggests a few possibilities. One, is that maybe Jacob didn’t think his brother was that wise. cont...

Another could be that maybe he thought he was so careless and nonchalant in attitude that he felt he could get over on him. Finally, maybe Jacob felt Esau was very aloof with regards to spirituality and as such was not worthy of obtaining the birthright. Just a thought. A quick note: according to scholars, a birthright can be forfeited as a result of sin, sold or set aside by God. Esau’s attitude was “who cares” about this birthright thing. cont...

Just give me some food! So Jacob, being full of knowledge, wisdom and understanding made Esau swear to giving over his birthright. Once Esau did so, Jacob gave him the coveted bowl of stew and made it all official. Here are some of the things Esau gave away: Having God as a special Lord to him, spiritual blessings, material prosperity, power over enemies, eternal inheritance, double portion of the inheritance and so much more! GENESIS 26: We see a clear example of our Lord intervening with Isaac. As Isaac was on his way to Egypt, the Lord appeared to him and stopped him in his tracks. The Lord assured Jacob that He will bless him as He did his father Abraham. Although the blessing the Lord was going to bless Isaac with was solely because of his father, it didn’t matter. Count a blessing a blessing as God is faithful to keep His Word. Amen! As such Isaac settled in the land called Gerar. cont..

Here we see Isaac repeat what Abraham did when he lied and said Sarah is his sister. Well, it wasn’t really a lie, was it. Anyhow, isn’t funny how Isaac, in turn, did the very exact thing with his wife Rebekah by lying to the same king for the same reason as did his father! My word. Isaac displayed a cowardice nature when he did that. The difference with this is that Isaac actually told a lie, whereas Abraham did not; Sarah was his sister. cont...

I can’t help, but to wonder if Abraham shared this story with Isaac or maybe even Sarah with her only son. My questions is, did he move because he was afraid of the men or did he move to keep the peace? Additionally, there’s nowhere in the chapter where it says God instructed him to relocate. Since that is the case, why did Isaac feel it was ok to move? We read in (V.22) Isaac saying, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” How did he come to such a conclusion I wonder. Is it because now there was no strife? Maybe Jacob really didn’t want to deceive his father. Just a thought. Look at how Isaac kept questioning Jacob if he is really Esau? Six times (V. 18-27) Isaac asked various questions to Jacob in attempts to verify his identity. This clearly shows that Isaac had reservations about this man in front of him being his son Esau. Leah was given because it was the custom for the 1st daughter to be married before the 2nd. I wonder, did Leah speak when Jacob entered the room? Simeon meaning hearing because she said the Lord has heard that she is loved less than Rachel. Levi meaning joined because she felt that surely after having a 3rd son, her and Jacob would be joined. Then finally Judah meaning praise because Leah said she will praise God because now her husband will love her since she’s given him 4 sons. In this chapter, we read that after Judah, Leah stopped bearing children. cont...

Judah was to be the line in which our Christ would come. Do you think it’s a coincidence that the son whose name means praise, is the son whose lineage would give birth to our Christ? I hope not because nothing God does is coincidence or happenstance. Everything the Almighty does, is deliberate, intentional, just and precise! Amen! Glory hallelujah! Blessings and love~SophieBella3

GENESIS 30: We start off by seeing Jacob’s beloved Rachel being melodramatic when she tells Jacob that if he doesn’t give her children she will die! Wow. So Rachel has displaced “power” and put it onto Jacob instead of God as if Jacob had the ability to give her children. Not only does she do so, but she also provokes anger in Jacob. This is the first time in the Bible we see a man become angry with a woman. cont...

Rachel’s anger began to consume her because of her inability to have children. So Rachel gives her maid Bilhah to Jacob in order to have a child. Again we see a replica of the whole Sarah, Abraham and Hagar scenario. She even went as far as to tell Jacob that when Bilhah is having the child, she wants her to sit on her lap, as a way to simulate childbirth. Ok, does anyone see a problem here? cont...

This action of having a pregnant woman sit on your knees during childbirth seems a bit excessive in my opinion. Through way of Bilhah, Rachel had Dan meaning judging because she said God has judged her worthy. Next came Naphtali meaning wrestling because she struggled with her sister to have children. My question is this, did Rachel give her maid to Jacob a 2nd time? cont...

It seems Jacob may have just went back to Bilhah without Rachel giving her to him. Leah, no longer conceiving, saw her sister have 2 sons by her maid, decided she will do the same with her maid Zilpah. Zilpah had Gad meaning troop and Asher meaning happiness/blessed. Leah felt with having Gad her 5th son, it would be like her having a troop of sons and then Asher because she felt women would say she’s happy now after having 6 sons. cont...

Now Ruben, Leah’s eldest went out and got mandrakes for his mom, a sort of fruit thought to bring fertility. Rachel, again putting trust in everything else except God, asked her sister for some of the mandrakes. Leah, of course had the upper hand, put a price on what Rachel wanted. She told Rachel she’ll give her the mandrakes for exchange of having Jacob for the night. Rachel agreed and Jacob slept with Leah the night. cont...

Here’s another situation where food was used in exchange for something. Recall that Jacob offered Esau a bowl of stew for his birthright and now we see Rachel offering Jacob for mandrakes! My word! Can you imagine how much lower this must have made Leah feel that she had to “buy” her husband. Again Leah conceived and had Issachar meaning hire/reward because surely she “hired” Jacob for the night. cont...

Leah conceived again and had Zebulun meaning dwelling/cohabitation because Leah felt that since she gave Jacob so many sons that now he’d dwell with her instead of Rachel. Leah conceived again and this time had a daughter which she named Dinah meaning vindicated as she thought God vindicated her from her struggles with her sister. Between Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah, Jacob was now the father of 10 sons and a daughter. cont...

God being as gracious as He is, remembered Rachel and her closed womb. After the birth of Joseph, Jacob wanted to leave Laban and return to Canaan, but Laban recognized how blessed he was because of Jacobs presence. As such, he asked him to stay another 6 years. Jacob agreed, but asked for payment via animals. Jacob decided to take the spotted herd this way there was a clear separation and no one could accuse him of stealing any flock. Laban agreed to the terms of Jacob on how to separate the flock. cont...

Jacob tampered with the animals and how they’d reproduce when he started to feed certain animals a certain diet causing them to conceive. This lead to increased flock. Laban thought the flock he gave up wouldn’t be productive for Jacob and as such he would’ve received labor from Jacob for little. Here, again we see deception in the mix, with Jacob being the target. Could this all be because Jacob was reaping what he sowed? Possibly. cont...

Either way, Jacob’s knowledge of animal fertility helped him to be successful with the flock he took. Jacob himself played with deception again when he made sure his flock were strong while leaving Laban the weaker of the bunch. Clear example of one deceiver to another! My word. GENESIS 31: The gossip of Laban’s sons about Jacob, caused Jacob to realize there was tension brewing between Laban’s family and him. As such Jacob sent for Rachel and Leah to inform them of his plan to leave. Jacob included his wives in his plan and waited to hear their opinion. Notice how the Bible reads, “So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah…” Again Rachel is first. Also look at how God spoke to Jacob prior to him deciding to leave. cont..

God came right in and instructed Jacob to return to his father and assured him that He will be with him. How great is that! God assured Jacob and instructed him without Jacob seeking God! Again, the Lord spoke to Jacob telling him that He sees what Laban is doing with the flock. cont...

Notice how often the Lord spoke to Jacob without him seeking the Him. How gracious and kind our God is. The one time we see the sisters in an agreement is when they both told Jacob that their father has not given them what is rightfully theirs. They both agreed that their father took their inheritance. This kind of follows the pattern of how it generally takes a tragedy/bad thing to happen in order to bring a family together. cont...

Before Jacob left with his family, Rachel, unbeknownst to anyone, went and stole her father’s gods. This clearly shows that Rachel had little faith in the true and living God. Recall when Rachel prayed to have children and God blessed her; which god did she give credit for her fertility? Did she give God Almighty the credit or was it the gods of her father? Just a thought. Oddly enough, although Rachel took the false gods with her, this does show her more spiritual side. cont...

Let me be clear, I do not condone Rachel’s worship of her false gods; such an act is sinful. I am merely pointing out that she had a spiritual side. The Bible says Rachel said, “the Lord” capitalizing the L in Lord, indicates that it is the true and living God Almighty. So then why’d she take her false gods? Was she double minded? Was she luke warm? Was she worshipping the true God and the false gods? Just a thought. So Jacob fled and Laban was angered. cont...

He went on a hot pursuit for Jacob at which time the Lord spoke to Laban in a dream warning him not to say anything to Jacob, neither good nor bad. Laban lied as he was jealous of Jacob and wanted to do him harm. Laban only spoke that way because he was warned by the Lord. I do find it odd that even after the Lord told Laban to be careful not to say anything good or bad to Jacob, that Laban still spoke to Jacob explaining the reason why. Isn’t that considered saying something to Jacob? Isn’t that being disobedient? Why didn’t Laban just turn and go back since the Lord told him not to say neither good nor bad? cont...

Just a thought. Another lie is when Laban told Jacob that he has the power to do him harm. This was a bold face lie because he had absolutely no power, as God spoke to him with a clear warning and basically said not to mess with Jacob. So Laban was powerless! Laban then questioned Jacob as to why he stole his gods. Jacob was upset as he knew he didn’t take anything and ended up giving Laban permission to search his property. cont...

Rachel was the one who stole the gods in secret. Jacob was so sure that no one had taken anything, that he even went as far as to tell Laban that if he finds his items in Jacobs property, the thief would be put to death. Now sure we know that if Jacob knew Rachel stole Laban’s gods, he would never have placed such a wager. There’s a valuable lesson to learn here, don’t bet on anyone except God because just that quickly, you can endanger the very one you love. cont...

Rachel was clever enough to sit on her stolen gods and tell her father she is having her cycle so she can’t stand in his presence. I think it’s worth noting that when Laban began his search, he didn’t start with Rachel, he started with Jacob, then Leah, then he went to the servants and then Rachel last. I wonder why? One may say it’s just him starting with the older and then going to the younger, but I disagree. cont...

If that were the case, he wouldn’t have gone to the servants next; he would’ve gone to Rachel next. Additionally, why not go to the servants first; why Jacob and his daughter? Well we know he didn’t like Jacob so that explains why Jacob first, but again, why his daughter? Could it be that Laban felt Leah was the more likely one to steal, even before the servants and Rachel would be least likely? Just a thought. cont...

Ironically, the one he least expected happened to be the very one who was the thief! Not all that glitters is gold and sometimes it’s the one you least expect to do you harm that’s the main one who will harm you. So why did Rachel lie? Was it because she was afraid of being put to death? Did she not want to be known as a thief or was it because she just wanted to keep her gods? One may never know. So after Laban found nothing, Jacob became angry. cont...

He was upset that Laban accused him and then searched his things. Jacob started to review all the things Laban did to him and all the ill treatment he endured. He made it seem as if he were so innocent and that Laban was the only deceiver, which we know was not at all true. I often wonder why Jacob didn’t call God his God.
