With this piece, artist Selia Sealey has captured that magical, otherworldly quality that is unique to raptors and kestrels in particular. The American Kestrel, sometimes called a "sparrow hawk", is the smallest falcon in North America. While this tiny hawk may look like a songbird, the American Kestrel packs a predator's fierce intensity into its small body. The kestrel is fast, controlled, a patient hunter, and a keen watcher. They are monogamous. A mated pair will stay together for years. It's one of the most colorful of all raptors.
