Egyptian Mummy Bandage Fabric, circa 1100 to 500 B.C.
This ancient artifact features a miniature square of a beautiful, delicate weave, stored in a display case.
There was no professional authentication but I wouldn’t have collected this piece if I didn’t believe it was truly ancient.
Fabric measures 1 cm x 1 cm

Major egypt nerd here. The wrappings on most New Kingdom mummies look similar— guessing this was likely from a regular civilian due to the weaving of the linen. High-status civilians, royals, and even sacrificial animals usually had more ornate and typically dyed wrappings, and given the paleness and overall quality of the knitting, this probably came from either a mass burial or scrapping from a regular citizen.

Only thing that perplexes me is the overall appearance in texture— linen was typically more slick and almost leafy in the way it was threaded… then again, that might be another homage to the civilian status of it’s owner…. Idk. Where’d you find it?? In recent years the Egyptian government has really begun to clamp down on exporting of items like these for their historic and archaeological significance. As an aspie with a lifelong egyptology hyperfixation, I’m quite intrigued.
