This rare Grolier, Enterprises, Inc., book club, edition version of Dr. Seuss’s very first book, published by Vanguard press, Inc. in New York is the 1964 edition. It has been discontinued by the publisher because of some very outdated and inappropriate depictions of a Chinese man. It is a piece of children’s literature history, and would be an excellent purchase for anyone interested in seeing how far we have come with diversity, equity and inclusion issues in publishing. A true piece of history, this version is hard cover, and has some wear and tear on the back binding near the top and bottom edges but is otherwise in great condition! Inside the front cover is the name of a former owner (see photo attached).
