Antiquarian Book NEW UNIVERSAL GAZETTEER c1844 w/200 Engravings LOADED W/HISTORY

Here we have an original from the early 19th century. Several Universities specifically call out the value of the Native American population detail contained within these pages. They reference an article (pg 188) describing the state of the *Cherokee people in the early 19thC. Cherokee leaders Charles Hicks & John Ross are mentioned. Much more on others tribes… and people/places across the US & the world… are contained within these pages. *SEE PHOTO WITH YELLOW MARK - that’s a little about the Cherokee people. Yellow mark is NOT on the actual page. 816 #’d pages. LOADED w/historical info. Believe complete. I don’t see any missing pages, but have not gone through them page by page. Spine is in VG condition, book sturdy. Leather boards are faded & worn, but sturdy and intact. You can read the title on the spine, in black bands against charming worn leather brown boards - reading “Universal Gazetteer“, and “Census 1840“. Corners bumped & edges worn. Pages legible. 1st couple of blank pages are wrinkled. Prior owner (Daniel Nugent) wrote their name 3x on the 1st blank page & also on end paper; likely MANY years ago. Some fading, toning, foxing, soiling & damp staining, although minor & scattered. I see one C-shaped tear along a page edge, w/pc of paper tucked inside. Page 408. O140
