Up for offer here is an antique, 17th to early 18th century, primitive utilitarian copper cockle pitcher pot jug. This is made of tinned hand hammered copper, with dovetail joinery seams up the side with handle and around the circular base. The handle is hand wrought, and appears to be bronze metal that is applied or attached with two flanged rivets at the top and one at the bottom of stem of handle. The rim and pour spout are well folded over for added sturdiness. The metal itself is heavy gauge, thick and hefty overall. This does not sit flat, as the bottom is slightly rounded from use and age. Some of the exterior copper is worn to expose tinning. There a some very small thin areas at the base that will need brazing to make water tight again. Evidence of 19th and possibly early 20th century brazing repairs. Originally this would have had a flip top lid attached to the top of the wrought handle. Continental or UK, likely from either France or England. A fine piece of Primitive Farm House, old Pub or Ale House serving and practical use object. Measures approximately 7 1/8" tall x about 8" at widest including handle, bottom measures just around 6" wide. This item came from an Ohio estate featuring a vast array of heirlooms, antiques, collectibles, and art amassed over time by a 98-year-old medical doctor and his art patron wife.
