Beautiful large antique majolica bowl by Chesapeake Pottery, which created majolica pieces from 1882-1914.
This piece is 110-142 years old.
Pattern name: Avalon Faience (Blackberry)
Backstamp features interlocking triangle banners with “AVALON” on left, “FAIENCE” on right, “BALt.” on bottom, with the monogram “DFHC” in center for “D. F. HAYNES & Co.”.
Measures approximately 11.75" wide x 6” tall, with a 7” wide pedestal base
"Majolica production at the Chesapeake Pottery commenced in 1882 with a pattern named Clifton. Featuring blackberries and leaves on an ivory ground, the design is reminiscent of the Wedgwood Argenta Blackberry design." (Majolica Society website)
Wonderful colors and textures. Blackberries and white blossoms, leaves in various shades of green, purple and orange, and a remnants of metallic gold trim.
Please view photos carefully for condition, especially since this piece is well over 100 years old. There are a few fleabites and minor marks (shown).
