Weight: 3 lb. 7 oz.
Elegant American Brilliant Period cut glass fruit bowl in good condition. The gorgeous intaglio featured on the bottom of the piece is composed of grapes, leaves and curled grape vines. Tiny sawtooth “teeth” line the rim, with a border of intricately cut hobstars that will take your breath away. This fine lead crystal bowl even produces the beautiful clear tone when your finger lightly circles the rim of the bowl. And when a 365nm UV light is shown on it, there is a strong yellow-green glow that typically indicates manganese is present. It truly is a stunning piece of American history to add to your collection.
The sawtooth rim of the bowl has some expected chips and flea bites. There are two shallow conchoidal chips along the rim, and some minor grazes and knocks as you'd expect. There is also some light scratching, particularly on the bottom but nothing that stands out without close inspection. See the photos to point out the flaws. Most damage is visible only if you are looking for it. I want to point out the defects, but even the appraiser confirmed they are minor for the age of this bowl (over 100 years old).
As mentioned, I have purchased a standard online appraisal (Mearto 10/30/23) to confirm the age, maker and pattern; as well as an estimate as to how the flaws affect the value. After payment is received I would be happy to send a copy of it to the buyer.
