Pre-owned Antique Arita Ware Fukaumi Takeji Serving Plate late 1800's
This dates to between 1879 and 1905, but probably 1890s. The impressed mark is 精 written with the 米 on top which is the mark of Seiji Gaisha (精磁会社). This Arita ware company was founded in 1879 and prospered for a while before largely failing in 1889. The company was reorganized under the leadership of Fukaumi Takeji and didn't completely stop operating until August 1905 when a storm destroyed the factory, but some sources believe it effectively stopped operating by the time of Fukaumi Takeji's death in early January 1898. The impressed rather than painted mark on yours would suggest Seiji Gaisha produced the blank.
There is no paperwork to accompany this large serving platter. This information is based on the maker's mark.
