Antique Chinese Enamel Box Hand Painted Floral Cigarette Box Matchbook Holder

Antique smoking set made in China in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Includes a bronze (or brass), wood-lined cigarette box and matchbox holder, colorfully enameled in Art Nouveau nature motif. Amazing gift for a smoker! Of course the box can also be used as decor or storage (jewelry, vanity, etc). Both the embossed box and matchbook holder are hand painted in colorful enamel. Each piece has an exquisite raised floral pattern handpainted primarily in blue, green, yellow and pink. Similar to cloisonné. The box features a range of flowers including cherry blossoms and pansies and a charming bird. The coordinating matchbox cover has the floral motif. Each sits on four round ball feet. Engraved “CHINA” on the base. SIZE: Box measures 4 1/2” by 3 3/8” by 1 1/2” high. Matchbox cover measures 2 5/16” by 1 1/2” by 1 1/16” H (including feet—7/8” without). Holds a standard matchbox. CONDITION: Both pieces have some enamel loss and wear, surface scratches, and cracking in the finish. The matchbox cover has more significant wear. The interior wood lining of the box has some marks and is a bit warped. Both are also a bit bent in spots. Nonetheless, color and pattern on both are still bright and beautiful.
