Antique Civil War Era Ambrotype Photo Of Mother & Child In Leather Union Case

This antique ambrotype photo captures a momentous scene from the Civil War era, featuring a mother and child in a leather Union case, possibly carried by a soldier. The case is made of wood covered in tooled brown leather with a Maltese cross design on both the front and back. The interior has a velvet designed lining on the left side with the framed picture on the right. There are two tiny copper frames which pop out and are interchangeable. Adding to its value and historical significance, the photograph is an original ambrotype which is a positive on glass with a black background added to contrast and see the image dating from the 1850s-1860s. The mother and child who are the subjects of the photo are clothed in the unique wear appropriate to this era. This very small booklet measures 3”H x 5”W when opened and 2.5”W when closed. This piece is in very nice condition consistent with age and use. The tiny brass hinges and clasp are intact and work great. Please review all photos as they are part of the description.
