Antique pair of American art pottery candle holders
These were produced by Cowan Pottery
Founded by R. Guy Cowan in Lakewood, Ohio, the studio was only in operation from 1912 to 1931
During that time it closed for two years, from 1917 to 1919, while Cowan enlisted and served during World War I
Despite it’s relatively short timeline, the studio produced some of the most dramatic and creative pieces of American art pottery
This pair of art deco candle holders dates from the 1920s and is stunning in detail and form
They are a lovely cream color and are finished in a silky glaze
You can definitely feel the quality when you hold them
Both have the incised die cut mark of the Cowan RG logo which resembles a tree
Each measures approx 3 1/2” tall and approx 3 1/2” across
Both are in nice condition with age appropriate wear and crazing
No chips, cracks or repairs
