Elevate your style with this stunning 20” black antique Edwardian wide-brim hat. The black beaver fur and vintage wide sequin trim make it the perfect accessory for any dress-up occasion. The hat is an original piece from the 1910s and has a vintage look that will surely turn heads. The opening of the hat is generous, to accommodate the popular bouffant Gibson Girl hairstyle.
The hat itself is over 100 years old and in remarkable shape for its age. Note that I cannot guarantee that this is felted beaver, but all of my research indicates that it is. The thickness of the felt is remarkable. See photos. The sequin band (woven horsehair?) is distressed as is the unique beaded spray. The ostrich plume is still lush. I have not done anything to restore the hat other that give it a good lint rolling for dust. Photos were taken with the hat in a stand, also flat on the table. The silk lining needs to be re-tacked. PLEASE look at the photos and ask questions. Happy to take more photos.
The Edwardian fashion era was defined by over-sized hats decorated with feathers, bows, flowers, and even birds, often referred to as Gainsborough, for the famous portrait artist, or Picture hats for the flattering way they framed the wearer’s face. They were held on with long and often decorative hat pins.
